Actress Son Ye-jin is expected to showcase her refreshing charisma through the drama ‘Variety’ produced by CJ ENM Studios.
According to the broadcasting industry on the 11th, Son Ye-jin has received an offer to appear in the new drama ‘Variety’ and is currently considering it. However, as she is in the midst of preparing for the filming of the Netflix series ‘Scandal’, a final decision has not yet been made.
Son Ye-jin's side confirmed to Maeil Business Star Today, “It is true that we received an offer to participate in the project,” but added cautiously, “We are currently reviewing the script.”
‘Variety’ is a thriller set in the idol industry, directed by Kim Yong-hoon, who previously directed ‘Mask Girl’. There are rumors that current idol group members will be cast as the main characters, and casting is actively underway for both current idols and former idol actors. The group appearing in the drama is also expected to be created like a real group.
The character that Son Ye-jin has been offered is said to be a charismatic and refreshing character reminiscent of former Ador CEO Min Hee-jin.
This project is directed by Kim Yong-hoon, who has gained global attention for works such as ‘Beasts Clawing at Straws’ and ‘Mask Girl’, and is produced by CJ ENM Studios, known for producing ‘Decision to Leave’ and ‘Hospital Playlist’. Actress Jo Yu-ri, a former member of the girl group IZ*ONE, who rose to global stardom with ‘Squid Game 2’, is also in consideration for a leading role.
A CJ ENM representative also stated, “It is true that an offer was made to Son Ye-jin,” but added, “As we are still in the early stages of production, nothing has been confirmed yet. Specific matters such as scheduling and casting have not been decided yet,” taking a cautious stance.
Meanwhile, Son Ye-jin has confirmed her appearance in the new Netflix K-series ‘Scandal’, a remake of the film ‘Scandal - The Love Story of Joseon Men and Women’ (hereafter ‘Scandal’), where she will star alongside Ji Chang-wook.
Her return to the screen is with Park Chan-wook’s new film ‘There’s Nothing You Can Do’, which has already completed filming. The story revolves around ‘Yoo Man-soo’ (played by Lee Byung-hun), a company employee who felt satisfied with his life until he suddenly gets fired and prepares for his own war towards re-employment to protect his wife and two children and to keep the house he worked hard to acquire. This film is based on the novel ‘THE AX’.
With this, Son Ye-jin is making a perfect return across various genres and diverse characters, following her appearances in OTT series and films. Son Ye-jin married fellow actor Hyun Bin in March 2022 and gave birth to a son in November of the same year.
