The Film Alliance has demanded that Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon immediately withdraw his appointment of members to the Korean Film Council.

On the 8th, the Film Alliance, which aims to overcome the crisis in the film industry, issued a statement titled, "The appointment of Yoo In-chon, co-conspirator of the December 3rd insurrection, to the Korean Film Council must be revoked."

On the 6th, Minister Yoo appointed six members to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), including Kang Nae-young, Chair of the Busan Film Policy Committee; Gil Jong-cheol, Professor of Theater and Film at Hanyang University; Kim Jeong-ki, Director at Shinjeong Accounting Corporation; Director Lee Jeong-hyang; Lee Hyun-song, CEO of Smart Study Ventures; and Jo Hye-jung, Professor at Chung-Ang University Graduate School of Arts.

The Film Alliance stated, "Minister Yoo In-chon acted as a spokesperson for the government during the December 3rd insurrection and did not hesitate to control access to the Korean National University of Arts, an affiliated institution, during the illegal declaration of martial law. Therefore, the Film Alliance urged Minister Yoo to resign immediately through a statement on December 18, and strongly demanded that the current government, which is an extension of the previous government's blacklist, cease the appointment of executives in public institutions under its jurisdiction."

In particular, the Film Alliance expressed regret, stating, "The new committee composition announced by the Ministry of Culture on January 6 did not reflect the opinions of various film organizations. Not a single person recommended by the 19 organizations affiliated with the Film Alliance, which represents key professional film workers, was included. The appointments were concentrated on individuals with little interaction with filmmakers, such as professors or those with investment company experience, and there is also an imbalance in gender representation."

They emphasized, "The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism under Yoo In-chon should no longer deceive the film industry and filmmakers. The Film Alliance cannot recognize the opaque appointment of members to the Korean Film Council made by Minister Yoo during this period of national confusion."

The Film Alliance includes the Korean Association of Art Film Theaters, the Korean Film Producers Association (PGK), the Korean Society of Cinematographers (CGK), the Korean Film Producers Association, the Korean Actors' Association, and the Korean Directors' Guild (DGK).
