The second season of ‘Squid Game’ did not win the Golden Globe for Best Television Drama. The award went to the Japan-set ‘Shogun’.

Disney+’s ‘Shogun’ took home the award for Best Television Drama at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards held on the 5th (local time) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, USA.

‘Squid Game’ Season 2 was in competition for the trophy against ‘Shogun’, Netflix’s ‘The Diplomat’, Apple TV+’s ‘Slow Horses’, Prime Video’s ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’, and Peacock’s ‘The Day of the Jackal’, but failed to win.

‘Squid Game’ Season 2 made an unusual entry into the Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Drama before its official release, but the chances of winning were not high.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk also stated, “Just being nominated is both touching and shocking,” adding, “As Season 2 and 3 are released separately, I have let go of the hope for an award. It’s difficult to fully evaluate the work’s message and completeness.”

As expected, ‘Shogun’, which achieved 18 wins including Best Drama, Best Director, and Best Actor and Actress at last September’s Primetime Emmy Awards, also took home the Golden Globe for Best Drama.

‘Squid Game’ Season 1 was nominated for three categories at the 79th Golden Globe Awards in 2022, winning Best Supporting Actor (O Yeong-su) in the Television Drama category.

Released on the 26th of last month, ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 features the intense rivalry between Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who returns to participate in the game seeking revenge, and the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun), along with the story of the game restarting.

According to Netflix's official count on the 1st, ‘Squid Game 2’ recorded 68 million views (the number of viewing hours divided by the total running time of the work) just four days after its release, securing the top spot in the global top 10.
