Japanese broadcaster Ayane has spoken out about the 'mom as the main character' controversy ahead of her daughter's first birthday party.
On the 24th, Ayane shared the fitting process for her daughter's birthday dress on her social media, stating, “I didn't get greedy about being the main character,” addressing the attention on her glamorous dress.
The dress, with its voluminous silhouette and beaded embellishments, resembled an outfit for a wedding reception, leading some netizens to comment, “The mom stands out more than the child.”
In response, Ayane said, “Still, the mom has worked hard, so isn't it okay to dress nicely and welcome guests?” and added, “The idea that moms should just be modest is an old story.” She further expressed her desire to change the focus of the event, saying, “I want to call it a birthday party rather than a first birthday celebration.”
In a video of her dress fitting, Ayane tried on five dresses ranging from mini dresses to elegant gowns, explaining, “I wanted to look bright but not like the main character, and I wanted to avoid a wedding vibe.” She also shared her heartfelt sentiment, saying, “Since I’ve worked hard as a mom from pregnancy until now, what's wrong with standing out a bit?”
Meanwhile, Ayane married singer Lee Ji-hoon, who is 14 years her senior, in 2021 and gave birth to her daughter, Ruhee, in July of last year.
