In 'Brave Detectives 4', the true nature of shameless criminals was tracked down.
In the 54th episode of T-Cast E Channel's 'Brave Detectives 4', Police Officer Kim Joong-wi, head of the violent crimes unit at Pocheon Police Station, along with former Commissioner Yoon Wae-chul and Captain Kim Jin-soo from the scientific investigation team (KCSI), presented the investigation log.
The first case introduced that day began with a report stating, "A car has fallen off a cliff." There was no one in the driver's seat, and a skeletal body covered in a blue raincoat was found curled up next to the vehicle. The body was so small that it was hard to believe it belonged to an adult, and another skeletal body was discovered wrapped in a blanket nearby, adding to the shock.
The car owner was a man in his 40s, and it was revealed that his entire family had been missing for 10 months prior to the incident. It was found that the brother-in-law reported them missing after receiving a letter from the car owner stating, "I am going with the children." The investigation revealed that the husband was in a difficult situation due to business failure, and the wife had debts including a fine of 100 million won for manipulating sales while selling educational materials. DNA comparison confirmed that the skeletal remains were those of the couple's two daughters.
Later, a mat found under the vehicle contained a letter from the couple stating, "We tried to freeze to death, but it didn't work, so we will drown in the lake," but no bodies were found in the nearby lake. The couple had records of receiving frostbite treatment at a university hospital and had been wandering around the country.
A year later, they were placed on a wanted list, and the husband was designated as the number one suspect among important wanted individuals. After 2 years and 2 months of evasion, the couple was arrested in Busan and confessed to the murder of their two daughters, but their statements were inconsistent and included absurd claims such as, "We turned on the heater to die and fell off the cliff, but only we survived," which caused public outrage. The couple was each sentenced to 10 years in prison, inciting anger from everyone.

The next case reported by KCSI began with a report of a man bleeding and collapsed in the hallway of an apartment building, with a child crying and calling for his father. The 9-year-old child at the time had witnessed what happened to his father, adding to the tragedy. The deceased victim was a man in his 40s who operated a gift certificate exchange shop and was stabbed by a perpetrator while returning home with his child just before the Lunar New Year.
The child testified that a man who came down humming a tune took his father's bag and stabbed him. The investigation team completed a composite sketch through hypnosis and conducted investigations based on the sketch of a man wearing a mask. Among them, local merchants and residents identified a man in his 30s with nine previous convictions who had lived in the same neighborhood. Notably, he was known to have worn a mask during previous crimes and had recently bought shoes from a shoe store, leaving his old shoes behind. Blood from the victim was found on the front of the shoes.
The perpetrator, arrested in an arcade, initially denied the crime but confessed to two thefts, providing absurd reasons such as wanting to drink and have fun. He claimed he waited at home after seeing the victim putting money and gift certificates into his bag, insisting the child did not see anything, but later changed his story in court, saying he accidentally stabbed the victim out of surprise because of the child. Ultimately, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
