Chef Kim Mi-ryeong of Imokase has opened a restaurant in Jeju.
On the 13th, the SBS entertainment program ‘Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny’ aired the opening of Imokase's Jeju restaurant, featuring the ‘Black and White Chef’, who is ranked as the number one Korean cuisine chef.
On this day, Imokase, which had a soft opening in Jeju, stated, “Our target sales are 3 million won. We think we can reach that quickly since we have our pricing.”
At that time, Imokase's close friend, ‘Queen of Chinese Cuisine’ Chef Jeong Ji-seon, visited the restaurant. Imokase asked Jeong Ji-seon for her evaluation of the seafood platter and seaweed seafood noodles.
Jeong Ji-seon praised the fresh seafood platter but gave an honest review after tasting the seaweed seafood noodles, saying, “The seaweed isn’t soaked, so it has a fishy taste. And there’s no broth. I don’t think it should open like this.” Ultimately, Imokase decided to remove the noodles and unify the menu.
Shortly after, customers lined up as the soft opening time approached. Imokase's Jeju restaurant closed after just 2 hours due to running out of ingredients, with sales amounting to about half of the target, at 1,577,000 won.
Gathering the staff, Imokase said, “We could have sold more, but we ran out of ingredients. However, the bigger mistake was turning away customers who came on the first day rather than the sales.” She added, “Now that we know what the issues are from the soft opening, let’s make improvements and do it properly starting tomorrow.”
