YouTuber Pansook (real name Kim Min-seok), who has 500,000 subscribers, has been sentenced to prison and detained in court for charges including stalking.
The 12th Criminal Division of the Daegu District Court (Chief Judge Jeong Han-geun) held a sentencing hearing on the 25th for YouTuber Pansook, who was indicted for violating the law on the punishment of stalking crimes, and sentenced him to 10 months in prison. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours each of a stalking treatment program and a sexual violence treatment program. Pansook was detained in court.
Pansook has claimed to be a "sheriff" pursuing public interest and has released videos of private sanctions. He was later prosecuted for stalking victim A and for exposing a photo that could cause sexual humiliation to victim B without consent during a live YouTube broadcast watched by over 3,000 people.
The court stated, "There are lines in our society that should not be crossed. However, the acts in this case have exceeded that limit as private sanctions or private revenge," and added, "At the time of the crime, his real name was exposed, and numerous posts tracking personal information or defaming the victim were posted in online communities, indicating that the level of harm is very severe."
The court also pointed out that Pansook had previously been fined for similar stalking-related crimes, stating, "Despite having a criminal record, he committed the crime in a more provocative and violent manner."
Previously, Pansook had been sentenced to 2 years in prison with a 3-year probation for spreading false information about others on YouTube, and to 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation for insulting a police officer victim during a broadcast due to grievances.
