Singer Kim Tae-won, whose trip to the U.S. was thwarted, met his daughter Seo-hyun and 'New York son-in-law' Devin for the first time in three years.
In the episode of 'Lovers of Joseon' aired on the 29th, Kim Tae-won was shown meeting his daughter and New York son-in-law Devin. The nationwide viewership rating for the broadcast was 2.8%, with a peak rating of 3.3% (Nielsen Korea, metropolitan area), ranking first among cable channels during the same time slot.
Kim Tae-won, who was once again denied a U.S. visa, revealed his feelings about being unable to visit his daughter's home in New York. He expressed, "My daughter seems to think, 'Why can't my dad, who is quite a famous person, come to the U.S.?', but I'm only famous in Korea..." He lamented, "Did I make a fuss about the wedding out of nowhere?" On the other hand, he expressed his hope to spend meaningful time with his daughter while she is in Korea.
Finally, Kim Tae-won's wife and son joined the entire family to welcome daughter Kim Seo-hyun and 'New York son-in-law' Devin at the airport. While waiting for the couple, Kim Tae-won shared his excitement about meeting his daughter for the first time in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic, along with his feelings of regret for not being able to go see her. He described Devin, saying, "I saw him as very handsome. He is over 190 cm tall. He and Seo-hyun feel like a set," explaining his impression of Devin. However, unlike his wife and son, who are fluent in English due to their experiences in the Philippines, Kim Tae-won, who is 'illiterate in English', had to face the unfortunate situation of feeling left out as soon as the family gathered.
During a meal, Kim Tae-won, left alone with Devin, managed to bond over music, communicating despite the rapid speech of a native English speaker. When his daughter Seo-hyun returned after briefly stepping away, Kim Tae-won asked Devin all the questions he had been curious about. The next day, when Devin visited his in-laws, Kim Tae-won showed him an album filled with memories of Seo-hyun sticking to her dad while fishing and her childhood as an amusement park enthusiast, creating a sense of camaraderie.
Previously, Kim Tae-won had been caught smoking marijuana twice in 1987 and 1991.
Regarding the opportunity for a document review, he expressed disappointment, saying, "I heard it takes 10 to 12 months for the consulate to finish the review. None of the questions I practiced came up." Kim Tae-won lamented, "There's nothing else that feels empty, but my daughter... I'm sorry to my daughter," feeling bitter.
Earlier, Kim Tae-won had also applied for a performance visa in March but was denied.
'Lovers of Joseon' airs every Monday at 10 PM.
