Lee Bo-young, who has stopped assisted death due to her changed values, was shocked by the appearance of Kwak Sun-young, leading to a 'new conflict ending' that sent chills down viewers' spines.
In the 11th episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Mary Kills People' (written by Lee Soo-ah, directed by Park Jun-woo), which aired on the 6th at 10 PM, the changed lives of Woo So-jung (played by Lee Bo-young) and Choi Dae-hyun (played by Kang Ki-young) following the conclusion of the Benfonabital murder case were depicted. Ban Ji-hoon (played by Lee Min-ki) uncovered the black connection linked to Koo Gwang-cheol (played by Baek Hyun-jin) and Ahn Tae-seong (played by Kim Tae-woo), while Woo So-jung volunteered at Maria Welfare Hospital run by Father Yang Shin (played by Kwon Hae-yo) and Choi Dae-hyun served his sentence in prison, bearing all the guilt. The scene then shifted to three years later.
It was revealed that Woo So-jung's reason for proposing cooperation to Koo Gwang-cheol was part of a plan with Ban Ji-hoon to protect Bae Mi-young (played by Woo Mi-hwa), who survived after jumping, and to arrest Koo Gwang-cheol. Woo So-jung struggled with the decision when Bae Mi-young, who was brought to the emergency room, suddenly changed her mind about wanting to live after initially asking to be killed. However, she ultimately decided to save Bae Mi-young and asked Ban Ji-hoon for help, saying, "If you promise not to help any patient with euthanasia again, I will help you, Woo So-jung." Ban Ji-hoon explained that to definitely catch Koo Gwang-cheol, they needed to arrest him at the scene supplying Benfo, and Woo So-jung devised a plan to make Koo Gwang-cheol trust her by using the consent videos of assisted death from clients they had filmed.
When Woo So-jung voluntarily handed over the video that could serve as evidence of the crime, Koo Gwang-cheol smiled brightly, showing trust. However, at that moment, Woo So-jung injected the Benfonabital that Koo Gwang-cheol had brought into her own arm and collapsed, staggering while demanding the antidote from Koo Gwang-cheol. Just as Koo Gwang-cheol exploded in anger, Woo So-jung fell into his arms, and at that moment, Ban Ji-hoon rushed in and shot Koo Gwang-cheol, resulting in his death. Ban Ji-hoon immediately injected Woo So-jung with the antidote and hid the consent videos of the clients in Koo Gwang-cheol's desk drawer.
At the same time, Choi Dae-hyun was arrested by Detective Boo Hyung (played by Tae Hang-ho), who tracked him down using a location tracker while he was being assaulted by Koo Gwang-cheol's subordinates, and Park Min-seong was arrested for attempted murder after trying to kill Bae Mi-young in disguise as Detective Do-gun (played by Lee Do-gun). After Koo Gwang-cheol's death, Ban Ji-hoon and Detective Boo Hyung discovered evidence of Benfonabital taken from the police evidence storage and various valuables received by Ahn Tae-seong while investigating Koo Gwang-cheol's house, leading to the arrest of Ahn Tae-seong and the drug squad team leader. Furthermore, Detective Boo Hyung analyzed that Koo Gwang-cheol had led all the incidents based on the videos of the clients found in Koo Gwang-cheol's desk drawer, and that Woo So-jung and Choi Dae-hyun must have been threatened by Koo Gwang-cheol. Additionally, Ban Ji-hoon added, "Koo Gwang-cheol was trying to kill Woo So-jung with Benfo. He was even aiming a gun at her," confirming Koo Gwang-cheol as the mastermind behind assisted death.
Meanwhile, during the police investigation, Choi Dae-hyun claimed, "I did it alone at the behest of drug dealer Koo Gwang-cheol," presenting a recording of his voice during Jin Young-soo's (played by Kim Kwang-sik) assisted death as evidence. Choi Dae-hyun separately called Ban Ji-hoon and asked him to exclude Woo So-jung, saying, "I will take all the responsibility." Ban Ji-hoon conveyed Choi Dae-hyun's decision to Woo So-jung. Woo So-jung replied, "I cannot evade my responsibility," but Ban Ji-hoon persuaded her, saying that since Park Min-seong was killed in custody, if Woo So-jung was arrested, not only would her nephews be in danger, but so would she, urging her to pay for her crimes later. Ultimately, Woo So-jung avoided arrest due to lack of evidence during the investigation, and the investigation into the 'Benfonabital murder case' concluded with Koo Gwang-cheol, Ahn Tae-seong, and Choi Dae-hyun as the main culprits.
Afterward, when Woo So-jung heard from Bae Mi-young, "It was the most painful and difficult time, but I wanted to live the most," she encouraged her, saying, "You must live." She then confided to Father Yang Shin, "Have I made a mistake all this time?" expressing her confusion and anguish between the will to live of the patients and her beliefs about assisted death. Woo So-jung then tearfully asked to be allowed to work at Father Yang Shin's hospital, saying, "It's okay if I'm not forgiven." Additionally, in a letter sent to Choi Dae-hyun, who was imprisoned, she confessed her change in values, stating, "Even in moments when I thought I wanted to die, I unexpectedly wanted to live for reasons I never anticipated, and that is human and a miracle."
Meanwhile, three years later, Choi Dae-hyun was released from prison after serving his sentence, and Ban Ji-hoon discovered a pamphlet for Maria Welfare Hospital, where Woo So-jung is the director, at the scene where an elderly terminally ill patient peacefully passed away, raising suspicions.
In the meantime, Koo Gwang-cheol's sister, Koo Hye-rim (played by Kwak Sun-young), who had gone abroad, received a report from Koo Gwang-cheol's subordinate about the situation on the day her brother died and expressed her anger, saying, "These people deceived and played tricks on my brother." Koo Hye-rim confronted Woo So-jung and pressured her, suggesting, "Let's do the work my brother was doing together from now on." As Woo So-jung refused, Koo Hye-rim threatened with a sinister smile, saying, "I look forward to what I will do in the future," leaving viewers in suspense about whether Woo So-jung would resume her involvement in assisted death.
Meanwhile, the final episode 12 of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Mary Kills People' will air on the 12th at 10 PM.
