The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is set to investigate the SBS entertainment program 'Goal Daughters' (Gol Ddaenyeo), which has been embroiled in allegations of biased judgment and manipulation.
According to industry sources on the 4th, the ministry has transferred a complaint filed on the 2nd requesting an investigation into the allegations of biased judgment and editing manipulation in 'Goal Daughters' to its affiliated organization, the Sports Ethics Center, which has begun its investigation.
Previously, the complainant, referred to as A, stated, “Serious questions have been raised regarding the fairness of judgment and application of rules related to the G League final of 'Goal Daughters' (broadcast on August 27),” and pointed out that “the warning scene recorded in the match record at the 12th minute of the second half (Wonder Woman · Mashima Yu) was not shown in the live broadcast or the official YouTube 'full version', and the applicable rules were not disclosed comprehensively, making it difficult to verify the basis for the judgment post-factum.”
He added, “Even if it is in an entertainment format, once the rules, referees, and records are established, the game enters the realm of public trust,” and emphasized the need to confirm whether the rules applied by the production team were consistently applied in the actual game during the investigation process.
'Goal Daughters' aired the final match between FC Guchukjangsin and FC Wonder Woman on August 27. At that time, FC Guchukjangsin won the match 2-1, claiming their first championship title.
However, after the broadcast, allegations of biased judgment arose as players from FC Guchukjangsin attempted rough fouls, such as pulling the arms of the opposing team's ace, Mashima Yu, without receiving any warning cards.
The production team released the match record on the 30th of the same month, but the fact that Mashima Yu received a warning in the 12th minute of the second half was noted, leading to further controversy. In particular, the scene where Mashima received the warning was not included in the live broadcast or the full video released on YouTube, raising suspicions of manipulation.
'Goal Daughters' was also embroiled in manipulation allegations in 2021. At that time, the production team faced controversy for editing that changed the order of goals scored, and SBS ultimately replaced the directing team, apologizing that they would “return to their original intentions and start anew.”
