Actor Park Yoon-ho (22) humbly stated that he was able to work continuously after his debut because “he was lucky.”
Park Yoon-ho played the role of Park Kyu-jin, a precarious high school student suffering from school violence, in the Netflix series ‘Trigger.’
Released on the 25th of last month, ‘Trigger’ is a gun disaster action thriller that depicts the story of two men who pick up guns for their own reasons amidst the delivery of illegal firearms of unknown origin and the constant occurrence of gun incidents in South Korea, a gun-free country. It ranked 4th in the global TOP 10 series (non-English) category just three days after its release and jumped to 2nd place in its second week.
When asked about how he started acting, Park Yoon-ho said, “In my third year of middle school, a special teacher came to teach a film class, and we ended up making a movie together, which was so much fun. I followed a close older brother to an acting academy and ended up going to a performing arts high school. After entering the performing arts high school, I worked hard on my school life while performing and acting. It was tough because I had many talented friends around me, but those memories helped me a lot.”
When asked about his parents' reaction, he said, “At first, when I said I wanted to act, my parents actively supported me. I’m a meticulous person, so when I told them about the difficulties and various things I had researched, they encouraged me to give it a try. I was the class president and vice president every year in elementary school, but I never thought I would have a job that puts me in front of people like this. In middle school, I was just an ordinary student sweating while playing soccer and going to karaoke with friends. So my friends find it amazing. My parents like seeing me on TV. I feel like I’ve become a proud son,” he joked.
Park Yoon-ho is often mentioned as resembling actors Song Kang, Kim Woo-bin, Lee Jin-wook, Yoon Kyun-sang, and Yook Sung-jae. He waved his hands and said, “I absolutely do not think so. I’m embarrassed. It’s scary to open the comment section with such cool seniors listed. I heard I resembled Kim Woo-bin when I was younger. If I ever meet those seniors in person, I think I would be embarrassed.”
As mentioned earlier, Park Yoon-ho also fulfilled his dream of appearing on the YouTube variety show ‘Hong Seok-cheon’s Treasure Box.’ Hong Seok-cheon showed interest by adding Park Yoon-ho to his SNS follow list and picked him as a handsome man.
He said, “I was really grateful and amazed that senior Hong Seok-cheon invited me. I was happy to be in a place where many wonderful people appeared. I was a bit disappointed because I was very nervous,” and shyly added, “If I get the chance, I would like to appear on ‘Please Take Care of My Refrigerator.’ It’s a program I’ve been watching since elementary school.”
He continued, “Basically, I can cook enough to take care of my meals, and I usually go grocery shopping and fill the refrigerator. I live with my parents, but I have no difficulty in revealing my refrigerator,” and laughed, “I’ve been a fan of Chef Choi Hyun-seok since he appeared on Olive TV, and I enjoy cooking. I’m confident in making kimchi stew. My grandmother’s kimchi is delicious, so I often make it.”
Debuting in the 2023 drama ‘It’s Night,’ Park Yoon-ho has shown stable acting skills in ‘Love is a One-Lane Bridge,’ ‘Study Group,’ ‘Someday, a Wise Major Life,’ and ‘Unknown Seoul,’ gaining attention as a ‘next-generation hopeful.’
Having run without a break for two years since his debut, Park Yoon-ho confessed, “I still can’t feel it, but I’m grateful to continuously meet new works without a break.”
He said, “I stood in front of the camera for the first time with ‘It’s Night.’ I was really nervous before shooting, but once the shoot started, I had to do my role. The moment the camera started rolling, I forgot everything and focused on surviving here. I’ve been lucky to keep working for two years, and I feel grateful and also excited about what role I will take on next. Even if the characters seem similar, they are all different. It was fun to keep meeting new characters and breaking through.”
He added, “During ‘Study Group,’ my SNS followers increased from 30,000 to 300,000. I remember it being so amazing,” and said, “I really enjoyed the movie ‘Your Wedding’ when I was younger, so it’s amazing and great to be able to work with seniors Kim Young-kwang and Park Bo-young. When I mentioned ‘Your Wedding’ to senior Kim Young-kwang, he found it amazing, but I couldn’t say anything to senior Park Bo-young. I didn’t set any specific goals, but meeting those two seniors in a project feels like I’ve completed a quest.”
“Just like ‘Unknown Seoul,’ this year has been a series of new experiences. I feel like I’m living the life I dreamed of, which is amazing. Now that I’ve drawn my sword, I want to be properly recognized. I’m still lacking, but I want to become an actor that people can trust and watch. I’ve worn a lot of school uniforms, and the designs are all slightly different. The early colors are different, or the details vary, so it’s fun to see the various changes. I’m looking forward to what I’ll wear next. I also want to try a youthful romance that I can do at this age. I think it would be good to do it before the freshness fades.”
