Writer Park Cheon-hyu shared a conversation he had with director Steven Spielberg.
On the broadcast of tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ on the 2nd, Park Cheon-hyu, the writer of the musical ‘Maybe Happy Ending’, which won a Tony Award as the first Korean, appeared as a guest.
On that day, Yoo Jae-suk said, “Looking at the past Tony Award-winning works, there are many famous adaptations like ‘Cats’, ‘Les Misérables’, and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. It’s a miraculous thing that our country’s original musicals are loved on Broadway,” and asked, “Did director Steven Spielberg send you a congratulatory message after winning the Tony Award?”
Park Cheon-hyu replied, “Director Steven Spielberg watched the performance a few months ago. He wrote us a letter after watching the show. We couldn’t meet for a while due to scheduling conflicts, but we had a video call last week after the Tony Award ceremony.”
He continued, “The most touching part was when director Steven Spielberg said, ‘The setting of future Korea was really attractive, and while watching the performance, I felt as if I were in future Korea.’ That made me tear up. I tried hard not to cry while having the video call.”
Meanwhile, ‘You Quiz on the Block’ airs every Wednesday at 8:45 PM.
