T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyun), former member of the group Big Bang, made his public appearance at the ‘Squid Game’ event.
On the 28th at 8:30 PM, a finale fan event for the Netflix original series ‘Squid Game’ was held at Seoul Plaza in front of the Seoul City Hall.
The fan event was attended by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, as well as Park Hae-soo, Jung Ho-yeon, Kim Joo-ryeong, Anupam Tripathi, Lee Yoo-mi, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, and Jo Yu-ri, representing the ‘Squid Game’ series.
What particularly caught attention was T.O.P. He had not appeared in public since the drug scandal in 2017, and he stood before the domestic audience for the first time in about 8 years through this event.
In October 2016, T.O.P was sentenced to 10 months in prison and 2 years of probation for marijuana use at his home. After leaving Big Bang, he hinted at retirement by stating, “I will not make a comeback in Korea,” but faced criticism for reversing his retirement by appearing as the rapper Thanos in ‘Squid Game’ Season 2.
At the fan event, when asked if he felt any regret about Thanos meeting his demise in Season 2, T.O.P replied, “I did a lot of bad things without regrets in Season 2 and was punished, so I had no lingering feelings about appearing in Season 3,” adding, “I am grateful to be part of such a great work. I learned a lot.”
Meanwhile, ‘Squid Game’ Season 3, released on the 27th, depicts Gi-hun, who loses his best friend in a game he re-enters with his own purpose, the Frontman who hides his identity while infiltrating the game, and the final fates of the participants who survived the brutal game.
According to global OTT ranking site Flix Patrol, ‘Squid Game 3’ topped the charts in 93 countries, including South Korea, the United States, Germany, Mexico, Malaysia, Thailand, and Sweden, within a day of its release, achieving the number one spot in Netflix's TV show category worldwide.
