Actress Ryu Hye-young transformed her look with a short haircut for her role as lawyer Bae Moon-jung in 'Seocho-dong'.
The new tvN weekend drama 'Seocho-dong', which premieres on July 5 (written by Lee Seung-hyun / directed by Park Seung-woo / planned by CJ ENM Studios / produced by Green Snake Media), depicts the joys and sorrows of five associate lawyers (lawyers employed by law firms and paid a salary) who commute to the Seocho-dong legal town every day.
Ryu Hye-young, who has been loved for her solid and deep voice and delicate eye acting (playing Bae Moon-jung), is drawing much attention with her new legal character. She revealed her reason for choosing 'Seocho-dong', saying, "When I first met with the director, that moment was so enjoyable. I always dream of a joyful set, and I thought it would be a really fun place to be with the actors and the director."
She also shared, "The situations that Moon-jung faces are not much different from the concerns my friends of the same age are currently dealing with, and since she is around the same age as me, I felt I could express Moon-jung well." Therefore, she added, "I was drawn to the idea that I could share concerns with the viewers through Moon-jung. Because she is ordinary, I think it will be easier for viewers to empathize and relate to her."
In the drama, Bae Moon-jung (played by Ryu Hye-young) is a rough-talking yet warm-hearted character full of affection and interest in people. Ryu Hye-young humorously compared the character to "adding Cheongyang pepper to a savory soybean paste stew," highlighting Moon-jung's vibrant exterior and spicy kick.
She continued, "As I got to know Moon-jung, I felt that my affection for people was woefully lacking compared to her overflowing love for others. While acting, I tried to love people, especially those around Moon-jung, more and approached them on a human level. To do that, I aimed to show a comfortable demeanor when establishing my tone."
Ryu Hye-young also made a bold transformation not only internally but externally. "I thought it would be good if loveliness could be seen, so after discussions with the director, I boldly cut my hair short to maximize those aspects," she said, focusing on styling, which has made audiences even more curious about the character of Bae Moon-jung that Ryu Hye-young will bring to life.
Finally, Ryu Hye-young expressed, "'Seocho-dong' is something you can enjoy casually while eating rather than focusing intensely on it, and before you know it, you will gradually immerse yourself and empathize with it," raising anticipation for the broadcast.
'Seocho-dong' will premiere on July 5 at 9:20 PM on tvN.
