With a steep rise in popularity, will actor Choo Young-woo continue his box office success with ‘The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl’?
Today (23rd) at 8:50 PM, tvN’s ‘The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl’ (Directed by Kim Yong-wan, Written by Yang Ji-hoon, Planned by CJ ENM, Produced by Studio Dragon, Dexter Pictures, and Eo Content Group) will have its first broadcast.
‘The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl’ is based on a webtoon of the same name, telling the story of a boy destined to die and an MZ shaman girl trying to prevent it, showcasing a bold first love rescue romance of eighteen-year-olds.
Director Kim Yong-wan, known for works like ‘The Wind Blows’, ‘Method’, and ‘If You Wish Upon Me’, is at the helm, with the script written by the talented Yang Ji-hoon.
‘The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl’ is also noteworthy as it marks the latest youth romance project of Choo Young-woo, who has established himself as a ‘hot’ actor with three consecutive successful works since last year, starting with JTBC’s ‘Mrs. Oh’s Family’, followed by Netflix’s ‘Severe Trauma Center’ and ‘The Square’. There is a simultaneous surge of interest and expectations regarding the show's success.
In the drama, Choo Young-woo plays the role of Baek Gyeon-woo, a high school student and ‘archery hopeful’ who brings misfortune. He is prickly and defensive, fearing that his bad luck will harm those around him, but he begins to change gradually after meeting MZ shaman Park Seong-ah (played by Jo Yi-hyun).
Director Kim Yong-wan stated, “Gyeon-woo is a character that Seong-ah must fall in love with at first sight,” adding, “Choo Young-woo perfectly matched the character from his physicality to his voice. It felt like he stepped out of a comic, and he acted with an animalistic instinct on set,” praising Choo Young-woo’s visuals and performance that enhanced the character's persuasiveness.
Choo Young-woo also has high expectations for the project. At the production presentation, after seeing the highlight video for the first time, he expressed, “It’s really fun. I want to keep watching it,” and shared his hope for good results, saying, “I did my best on set.”
Co-star Jo Yi-hyun and Director Kim Yong-wan predicted that Choo Young-woo would rise to become the ‘nation’s first love’ through ‘The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl’. As it portrays a fresh youth romance, there is anticipation for the ‘first love’ charm that Choo Young-woo will showcase through the Gyeon-woo character.
