‘The Male Lead's First Night’ has revealed the characters that will firmly support the world of the romance novel.
The new KBS2 drama ‘The Male Lead's First Night’ (directed by Lee Woong Hee and Kang Soo Yeon, written by Jeon Sun Young), which will premiere on June 11, is a 'no-brake' romance fantasy drama that unfolds as an ordinary female college student's soul inhabits a minor character in a romance novel and spends a night with the novel's most obsessive male lead.
As the reality college student K inhabits the minor character Cha Seon Taek (played by Seo Hyun), and the cold-blooded male lead Ibeon (played by Ok Taek Yeon) begins his obsession following their first night together, attention is also focused on the diverse character relationships within the romance novel world they inhabit.
The relationship dynamics involving Cha Seon Taek, Ibeon, Jo Eun Ae (played by Kwon Han Sol), Jung Soo Gyeom (played by Seo Beom Jun), and Do Hwa Seon (played by Ji Hye Won) are intriguing. Jo Eun Ae is the character K supported the most during her time as a devoted reader before inhabiting Cha Seon Taek, and after the possession, they share a friendship. Jung Soo Gyeom, who has feelings for Jo Eun Ae, finds himself caught in a complex emotional flow due to the appearance of Cha Seon Taek. Do Hwa Seon, who has feelings for Ibeon, shows hostility towards Cha Seon Taek and Jo Eun Ae as they keep getting entangled with him.
The Cha family, centered around Cha Seon Taek, adds warmth and a cheerful atmosphere to the drama. The doting father, Prime Minister Cha Ho Yeol (played by Seo Hyun Cheol), and the graceful yet strong-willed mother, Yoon Deok Jeong (played by Yoon Yoo Sun), cherish their youngest daughter Cha Seon Taek and provide a solid support system.
The three older brothers also display their doting brother traits in their own ways. The eldest, Cha Jang Ho (played by Lee Sang Woon), tries to show dignity as the head of the family, while the second brother, Cha Do Ho (played by Kim Shin Bi), who is immersed in medicine, takes care of Cha Seon Taek in his own way. The youngest, Cha Se Ho (played by Yoon Jung Hoon), brings a lively energy to the drama with his detective-like demeanor, deeply engrossed in ghost stories and mysteries.
Meanwhile, a chilling atmosphere surrounds the royal family and court people that Prince Ibeon has grown up with. Seol Jong (played by Joo Seok Tae), who ascended to the throne through a purge, the kind yet inscrutable Queen Dowager (played by Nam Gi Ae), royal in-law Do Bae Myung (played by Jeong Hee Tae), conservative Chief Minister Jeong Mun Seok (played by Jeong Ho Bin), and the wealthy merchant and Jo Eun Ae's guardian Jo Byeong Mu (played by Kim Young Woong) all have different interests that intertwine, forming a complex power structure.
There are also characters who stand by Prince Ibeon in the midst of the ruthless power struggles. The servant who has been with him since childhood (played by Song Young Jae) is the only one who has looked into Ibeon's inner self closely, and his loyal aide Ma Yoon (played by Yoon Tae Ha) protects him with unwavering loyalty, regardless of the dangers.
Additionally, Seong Hyeon Gun Lee Gyu (played by Lee Tae Seon), who has connections with both Cha Seon Taek and Ibeon, makes an appearance. Lee Gyu was a childhood friend of Cha Seon Taek and is a cousin of Ibeon. After being exiled due to a power struggle, he returns to the capital and looks at the changed Cha Seon Taek with unfamiliar and suspicious eyes, creating tension as he opposes Ibeon.
The appearance of characters whose identities are hard to gauge is also noteworthy. A mysterious boy (played by Lee Joo Won) who appears at fateful moments for Cha Seon Taek and Ibeon adds to the intrigue, while the fortune teller Seol Gi (played by Kim Ah Young) creates a strange atmosphere with her profound words that seem to penetrate K within Cha Seon Taek.
‘The Male Lead's First Night’ will premiere on June 11 at 9:50 PM.
