‘Good Boy’ Park Bo-gum returns as the new face of unstoppable youth, equipped with a gaze that remains unshaken even with a face covered in injuries, bruises, and scars.
Actor Park Bo-gum has thrown down the gauntlet in the youth action genre for the first time since his debut through JTBC's new weekend drama ‘Good Boy’ (written by Lee Dae-il, directed by Shim Na-yeon). He plays ‘Yoon Dong-joo’, a police officer from a special forces team and a former boxing gold medalist, vividly portraying the struggles and conflicts of youth with every moment he faces.
The actor himself stated, “From the sweltering summer to the chilly winter, there are action scenes in every episode. I am looking forward to every scene created with the best staff, including cool direction, dynamic filming, and sensory lighting,” raising expectations for the scarred and distorted hero narrative that the new face of Park Bo-gum will present.
In the released images, Park Bo-gum gazes directly at the camera with a face marked by clear bruises and bloodstains, or takes deep breaths. His tightly closed lips and focused eyes, along with the tension radiating from his entire body, showcase Yoon Dong-joo's unique approach to life, where he moves first and collides with the world. Although Yoon Dong-joo was a national representative who wore a gold medal, he is now a police officer standing at the forefront of crime. Beneath this, he is filled with a determination not to give up easily, an attitude that does not evade responsibility, and a resolve to accept the tasks that must be done as his own.
Taking on a new challenge, Park Bo-gum is expected to deliver a performance that lends credibility to both his words and actions. Even amidst the traces of sweat, bruises, and blood, his unwavering emotional focus is clearly evident in every still shot. This is distinctly different from his previous roles as the pure genius Go player in ‘Reply 1988’, the intelligent and beautiful crown prince in ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, and the kind-hearted fool in ‘You’re All Surrounded’.
Defining the character Yoon Dong-joo with the single word “bulldozer,” Park Bo-gum explained, “He does not allow even a moment to escape with his burning sense of justice and punishes lowly injustices.” It is anticipated that his refreshing performance will not only remain at the level of justice but will also prove it with his whole body.
As a result, Park Bo-gum's representative nickname ‘Bokgeum Welfare Department’ is also expected to don a new outfit. Just by looking at the images, one can feel the overwhelming passion and refreshing breakthroughs of Park Bo-gum, reminiscent of a cool sparkling water shower as the heat of summer approaches in June. The production team confidently stated, “Park Bo-gum has brought Yoon Dong-joo to life by mobilizing every element, including sweat, wounds, gaze, and breath. You will be able to feel the new welfare he offers in every scene.”
Meanwhile, JTBC’s ‘Good Boy’ is a comedic action youth investigation drama about medalists who become police officers, wearing police badges instead of medals, fighting against a world rife with immorality and cheating. Directed by Shim Na-yeon, who has received recognition for both artistic quality and popularity with works like ‘Monster’ and ‘Bad Mother’, and written by Lee Dae-il, known for ‘Life on Mars’ and the ‘Advisor’ series, the drama promises high quality.
It will premiere on Saturday, May 31, at 10:40 PM and will be available to viewers worldwide through the global streaming service Amazon Prime Video.
