
‘Culinary Master’ Yeogyeongrae showcases his remarkable status in China.
In the 82nd episode of Channel A’s ‘Crossing the Line Family’ airing on the 8th, MCs Ahn Jung-hwan, Lee Hye-won, Yoo Se-yoon, and Song Jin-woo, along with representatives from France and the USA, will reveal the unique charms of ‘Sichuan’ and ‘Nice’ as they travel from China to France.
On this day, special guest Yeogyeongrae humbly smiles at MC Yoo Se-yoon's introduction, stating, “I was selected as one of the top 100 masters recognized by the Chinese government.” When asked, “Is it true that when the chef goes to China, a red carpet is laid out?” Yeogyeongrae responds, “It can be seen as an exaggerated story, but since I have been invited to many state events, it’s not entirely unfounded.” Ahn Jung-hwan jokingly replies, “I’m sorry we couldn’t lay out the red carpet for you today,” and when discussing how he has been in Chinese cuisine since 1975, he shows respect by saying, “You’ve been wielding the wok since I was just a baby.”
Next, the ‘Chinese Family’ members Hyun Bona and Zhang Haixiang appear and greet the Zhang siblings, Zhang Gai and Zhang Geon-hee. Known as the ‘Mukbang Family,’ the ‘Chinese Family’ visits Sichuan, famous for ‘mala’ and recognized as one of the ‘Four Great Cuisines of China,’ to experience the ‘Three Great Dishes of Sichuan’ in a culinary expedition. The ‘Chinese Family’ first heads to the ‘original Mapo Tofu restaurant,’ and Yeogyeongrae reveals, “When I went to that restaurant, I also took a number and waited.” The four MCs then question, “They say a red carpet is laid out when you visit China?” to which Yeogyeongrae honestly admits, “I wasn’t famous back then,” causing everyone to burst into laughter.
In a cheerful atmosphere, as the ‘Chinese Family’ begins their ‘Mapo Tofu Mukbang,’ MCs Ahn Jung-hwan and Lee Hye-won express, “Today is particularly tough; watching Chinese food on screen is more torturous than we thought,” as they lick their lips. Chef Yeogyeongrae then states, “I brought ‘Sichuan-style Mapo Tofu’ that I made myself,” and serves the dish on the spot, impressing the cast. Yoo Se-yoon, savoring the Mapo Tofu, exclaims, “It starts off mild, but there’s a hidden spiciness inside,” providing a perfect review that pleases Yeogyeongrae.
Additionally, the ‘Chinese Family’ clears the ‘Three Great Dishes of Sichuan’ including Mapo Tofu, Dan Dan Noodles, and Skewered Hot Pot in just one day, showcasing their impressive eating prowess, while also challenging traditional Sichuan dishes like rabbit head and ‘duck blood,’ demonstrating their enormous appetite.
