‘Villain's Country’ turned the living room into a hilarious chaos party right from its first episode.
The KBS2 sitcom ‘Villain's Country’ (directed by Kim Young-jo and Choi Jeong-eun, written by Chae Woo and Park Kwang-yeon), which aired on the 19th, opened the door to a ‘new concept family sitcom’ with the chaotic daily life of the Oh Nara family (played by Oh Nara) in episodes 1 and 2. The broadcast recorded a viewership rating of 2.7% (Nielsen Korea nationwide), marking a fresh start.
In the first episode, Oh Nara's husband, Seo Hyun-cheol (played by Seo Hyun-cheol), left a strong impact on viewers with his pitiful daily life. After oversleeping before an important meeting, Hyun-cheol faced a series of mishaps from the morning. He was shocked to find Nara in the bathroom when he opened the door and hurriedly changed after almost leaving for work in their son's school uniform shirt.
To make matters worse, he was startled to find his drunken daughter, Seo I-na (played by Han Seong-min), collapsed in the elevator. Although he finally set out for work, he faced a mishap when his car ran out of gas and stopped in the middle of the road, starting a tough day.
With the help of his brother-in-law, Song Jin-woo (played by Song Jin-woo), Hyun-cheol arrived at the company and attended the meeting safely. However, he became disheartened when he was on the verge of losing the project to Manager Kim (played by Kim Deok-hyun). He intended to gift a precious bottle of alcohol to Executive Jeong Ui-gap (played by Jeong Ui-gap) for a promotion, but was frustrated to learn that his daughter I-na had filled it with plum wine after drinking. Nara then procured alcohol for Hyun-cheol, and they attended Ui-gap's birthday party together.
Nara's keen instincts kicked in at Ui-gap's house. When she found the same shirt, shampoo, and perfume from the newly moved girl group Fire Fox member Baek Yeosun (played by Eun Yu-ri) at Ui-gap's house, she suspected the two were having an affair. Nara threatened Ui-gap, saying, “Let my husband proceed with the project. Otherwise, my truthful mouth will open wide.”
Nara raised the atmosphere by singing Fire Fox's ‘Dangerous Relationship’ passionately. Unable to withstand Nara's pressure, Ui-gap approved Hyun-cheol's project. However, when Nara exposed all the facts to Ui-gap's wife, the situation turned chaotic in an instant. Furious, Ui-gap's wife threw a cake and yelled, prompting Ui-gap to threaten Nara, “Do you think your husband will be safe after this?” But Nara, unfazed, retorted, “You take care of yourself, Executive!” providing a refreshing moment for the viewers.
In the second episode, Hyun-cheol was depicted feeling exhausted due to the lack of personal space at home. In contrast, Jin-woo was angry about having to sit down to urinate. The two attempted to retaliate against their sisters, Nara and Yoo-jin, but ultimately lost and left the house.
Nara and Yoo-jin spent a cheerful time preparing food for their husbands. However, as time passed and their husbands did not return, tensions rose. Nara exclaimed, “Because of our loser, your husbands can't come home? How weak is our loser? Isn’t your brother-in-law whispering in his ear?” and threw a pancake at Yoo-jin.
In a fit of anger, Nara and Yoo-jin drank alcohol and caused a ruckus at the playground in the middle of the night. Upon hearing the news of their drunken antics, Hyun-cheol and Jin-woo rushed over. Nara shocked Hyun-cheol by running out without anything under her outerwear, while Yoo-jin swung on the swing, evading Jin-woo. Their actions, which left their husbands dumbfounded, left a strong impression of the ‘Villain Sisters’ and brought laughter to the viewers.
‘Villain's Country’ captured the attention of viewers of all ages from its first broadcast with the unique character play of its actors and its delightful storyline. Oh Nara's bold acting transformation in her first sitcom challenge, along with the comedic performances of So Yoo-jin, Seo Hyun-cheol, and Song Jin-woo, effectively pressed the laughter button in the living room. Additionally, Director Kim Young-jo's excellent direction enhanced the charm of the characters in a cheerful atmosphere, adding to the enjoyment.
