Park Boyoung and Choi Wooshik, along with Lee Junyoung and Jeon Soni, create an exciting combination just by hearing their names. It’s a perfect match for Valentine’s Day with ‘Melomovie’.

At the production presentation of Netflix's new series ‘Melomovie’ held on the morning of the 12th at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Grand Ballroom, Park Boyoung said, “My father loved movies, so he named me Movie. In fact, Movie hated movies. I feel like I’m second to my dad.” She added, “Later, I say, ‘What’s that movie all about?’ but my character dreams of movies and jumps into the scene.”

She mentioned, “At first, I keep pushing (Gogyeom) away,” and “I tell him not to come into my boundary, but I tried to express the feelings of disappointment and confusion when the person I used to see every day is suddenly not in front of me.”

She continued, “Usually, when faced with an unexpected breakup, one tries to understand the other person. This time, I didn’t think about the other person’s feelings. I selfishly thought only about my own feelings. That’s why I found it very enjoyable.”

Additionally, she said, “In previous dramas, I had to show a cynical side, but in this drama, I had to lower my tone. I worked very hard to lower my tone. If I unconsciously raised my tone, I would be told, ‘Boyoung, you need to do it as Movie now,’ so I tried hard to break away from that.”

Choi Wooshik said, “Gogyeom was actually easier,” explaining, “After a coincidental first meeting, there’s an unexpected breakup and a surprising reunion, but he has a consistent straightforward style, so if there’s even a little gap, he tries to dig in. I tried to express that honestly and in various ways. He’s a man who doesn’t know how to give up.”

‘Melomovie’ depicts a romantic story about ambiguous youth who want to love and achieve their dreams, discovering each other and becoming inspiration while overcoming their traumas. It portrays young people with their own deficiencies moving towards dreams and love, and the reunion of ‘thirty-somethings’ dreaming of a melodramatic life.

The hit maker director Oh Chung-hwan, known for directing ‘Hotel Del Luna’ and ‘Startup’, collaborates with writer Lee Na-eun, who showcased the essence of youth romance through ‘Our Beloved Summer’. Choi Wooshik, Park Boyoung, Lee Junyoung, and Jeon Soni star in the series.

Choi Wooshik previously worked with writer Lee Na-eun. He expressed, “I liked the writer’s writing,” adding, “Since we worked together before, I knew what kind of charm her writing had, so it approached me positively. I recently said in an interview that I wanted to go to a place where I could happily enjoy the process of growth, and this matched those conditions.”

Having received love for his romantic acting through ‘Our Beloved Summer’, Choi Wooshik compared the characters from both works, saying, “Their personalities are different. When I played the character Choi Woong, he was introverted, but Gogyeom is extroverted, going out and asking for help from those around him when he’s struggling. He’s a capital E type of Gogyeom.”

He also expressed trust, saying, “I heard good things about director Oh Chung-hwan from all sides, and there were many good things said about actress Park Boyoung, so I thought I could have a happy experience working together this time.”

The chemistry of the introverted actors as a long-lasting couple also caught attention. Lee Junyoung said, “Both of us are I types, so it wasn’t easy, but I desperately tried to get closer,” and added, “Since both Jeon Soni and I have I type personalities, it was quite difficult at first. Since I’m the younger one, I tried to approach her first.”

He mentioned, “I think I tried to talk a lot before and during the shoot. I challenged myself to break the awkwardness desperately to get closer. Thanks to her being so receptive, I was able to break through quickly,” he laughed.

Jeon Soni responded, “I felt a bit anxious approaching her, but I was grateful for her actively coming to me, and it became a great support.” She added, “Since she’s my partner, it was easier to express that I wanted to match well together, making it easier to talk about any concerns or misunderstandings.”

Park Boyoung also expressed joy about working with melodrama kings like Park Seojoon and Park Hyungsik, saying, “Everyone has different strengths, but (in the case of Choi Wooshik), I met a friend of the same age for the first time. It made me feel that I could be comfortable and friendly.”

She added, “The set was always comfortable. When Wooshik speaks, it’s just so funny. Even before he speaks, it’s funny,” and said, “I realized he has such a lovely charm that I want to bring him out whenever I’m feeling down. Of course, I also really like actors Seojoon and Hyungsik.”

‘Melomovie’ will be released worldwide on Netflix on the 14th.
