'Blood Game 3' is making records. About two weeks after its release, it ranked first as the new paid subscription program for Wave in 2024, achieving the best figures.
Wave's original entertainment show 'Blood Game' season 3 (hereafter 'Blood Game 3') was first released on the 15th of last month and is being released every Friday at 11 AM.
'Blood Game 3' is the third season of Wave's popular entertainment series 'Blood Game', featuring 18 players including comedian Jang Dong-min, former pro gamer and broadcaster Hong Jin-ho, Kim Kyung-ran, Lim Hyun-seo, Seo Chul-goo, MJ Kim, Yuri Sa, Joo Eon-kyu, Pani Bottle, Chungju Man, Crocodile, Choi Hye-sun, Heo Seong-beom, Kim Min-a, Lee Ji-na, Kim Young-gwang, Si-yoon, and Steve Ye.
Hyun Jeong-wan PD, who directed the 'Blood Game' series, said, “It feels like we are producing the program once a year, but it’s the first time we are making three seasons under the same title.” He added, “I had a lot of concerns when starting season 3. I wondered, ‘What more can we do?’ However, I thought that producing one series three times is a great opportunity. I judged that it would be fine to create it with a different feel from seasons 1 and 2.”
Season 3 aimed to differentiate itself from seasons 1 and 2. PD Hyun explained, “Season 1 started with no knowledge, and season 2 was produced based on the experience of season 1.” He continued, “The viewers of season 3 have already learned about 'Blood Game', so there was a lot of thought about what to add or remove. We tried to maintain the essence of ‘an unfair and unreasonable game’ while moving away from the existing board game format to add new game styles and betting elements for diversity.”
The lineup of participants in 'Blood Game 3' has been a hot topic. This is because it brings together survival powerhouses Jang Dong-min, Hong Jin-ho, and Kim Kyung-ran in one place. PD Hyun shared, “Jang Dong-min had a friendship from doing 'Blood Game 1'. He said it was tough to go abroad during season 2. It seems that Jang Dong-min was slightly inspired after seeing Hong Jin-ho's performance in season 2. He thought he was really good at games and wanted to test how capable he really was. Hong Jin-ho expressed a desire to participate in season 3 because he felt regret from season 2. He said he wanted to have fun, whether he did well or failed, and that he could leave freely afterward. Kim Kyung-ran also said she wanted to join season 3 after watching seasons 1 and 2.”
In addition, the lineup boasts impressive names such as Lim Hyun-seo, Seo Chul-goo, MJ Kim, Yuri Sa, Joo Eon-kyu, Pani Bottle, Chungju Man, Crocodile, Choi Hye-sun, Heo Seong-beom, Kim Min-a, Lee Ji-na, Kim Young-gwang, Si-yoon, and Steve Ye. PD Hyun added, “I wanted to recruit impressive characters. I tried to invite people who stand out in their respective fields and have not participated in other survival programs. They seemed to fit well into a high-intensity worldview where they could challenge themselves even in harsh environments.”
'Blood Game 3' is scheduled to have a total of 14 episodes. What are the key players and viewing points in the second half? PD Hyun stated, “Everyone is a key player,” but added, “Hong Jin-ho is a slow starter. There has been feedback that he did not perform as expected in the first half, but you will understand when you see the second half. And ‘that’ has not aired yet. I don’t know how the audience will react. There are emotional and deep elements. I thought the participants would never meet again. You will see that everyone interprets situations differently.”
