‘Hot Feet’ concluded ‘Drama Special 2024’ with a strong display of family love and affection through the passionate performances of Oh Ye-joo, Kim Kang-min, and Yang Ui-jin.

In the episode aired on the 10th, KBS 2TV’s Tuesday drama ‘Hot Feet: Drama Special 2024’ (Directed by Lee Jin-ah, Written by Han Bom) showcased the touching story of siblings Haneul (played by Oh Ye-joo) and No-eul (played by Yang Ui-jin), who share their wounds and offer genuine comfort to each other, moving the audience.

‘Hot Feet’ opened with Haneul checking on her older sister No-eul, who has been a recluse for three years due to school bullying. Haneul, who was caring for her sister in place of their frequently traveling father Cheol-yong (played by Park Ho-san), desperately wished for even a moment to escape their prison-like home.

Just then, Haneul’s best friend suggested a trip to Jeju Island, and dreaming of liberation, Haneul launched her sister’s ‘Escape from the Room’ project, capturing attention. However, Haneul’s hopes were short-lived. While looking for a part-time job to save for the trip, she accidentally injured Kim Yang (played by Kim Kang-min), and her sister remained isolated in despair.

Kim Yang, who had a crush on Haneul, took this opportunity to flirt and even introduced her to a part-time job at her mother’s café, playing the role of a savior. Reflecting on Kim Yang’s words, “You need to accurately understand what the other person wants. This is how you open your heart,” Haneul decided to approach her sister.

As the trip to Jeju Island approached, Haneul was engulfed in doubt about whether she could leave her sister behind. Deciding to ask No-eul directly, Haneul received a positive signal from her sister. Just when everything seemed to be going smoothly, suspicious movements were detected in No-eul’s room, raising the tension.

Haneul was filled with anxiety, fearing that her sister might be having another bad thought. She knocked on the door with a resentful face, shouting for her to come out and talk, but No-eul remained silent. In frustration, Haneul exclaimed, “Do whatever you want. I won’t care if you live or die,” and ran out of the house.

Tears that had been held back burst forth as Haneul regretted saying, “I shouldn’t have said that.” Hyun-ji urged her to hurry back to her sister, and Haneul ran home with all her might. However, upon seeing the open door, she frantically searched for her sister. At that moment, she received a call and learned that No-eul was in the emergency room.

The sight of No-eul, isolated in her room, brought tears to the viewers’ eyes. No-eul began to change little by little, understanding Haneul’s sincere feelings, and moved around the room for her sister, who wanted to meet friends. The image of the two sisters moving their feet warmly on either side of a wall was touching.

Haneul entered the emergency room holding the mask and shoes that Kim Yang had given her. At that moment, No-eul’s screams were heard from behind the curtain, and soon the sound of her sobbing filled the emergency room. Once she stopped crying, No-eul told Haneul to go to Jeju Island, saying, “I can do it too. I’ll throw away the trash properly. Don’t get sick like me,” which was heart-wrenching.

At the end of the broadcast, No-eul headed home wearing the doll mask that Haneul had given her. Haneul suggested that they go to Jeju Island together next time, and No-eul nodded. The scene of the two sisters walking together on the beach in Jeju, smiling, filled Tuesday night with warmth.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, ‘Drama Special 2024’ stirred emotional waves with a variety of genres, including melodrama and coming-of-age stories, and high-quality one-act plays. With the perfect harmony of emerging writers, directors, and the outstanding performances of actors, it proved the significance and value of ‘Drama Special 2024’.
