The hat company of BTS member Jungkook (27), which has come under fire for using right-wing slogans, clarified that there was no political intent.
The Japanese fashion brand B, which produced the hat worn by Jungkook, released a statement on their official SNS on the 14th regarding the controversy.
The company stated, "We sincerely apologize to those who felt uncomfortable because of us," and added, "We believe in the freedom to express ideas through fashion. The design of the hat was not intended to convey any political stance, but rather symbolically expresses our hope for the prosperity of the Tokyo fashion industry."
Due to the controversy, the hat has sold out on official online stores, likely as a result of noise marketing.
Jungkook appeared as a guest at BTS member J-Hope's world tour encore concert held on the 13th at Goyang Sports Complex in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province. Prior to this, he conducted a stage rehearsal, during which the phrase on the hat he wore was pointed out.
The hat featured the phrase "MAKE TOKYO GREAT AGAIN." This expression is a slogan used by right-wing Japanese individuals. It can evoke memories of "Imperial Japan" and "glorification of the Japanese colonial period," making it a sensitive phrase historically for countries like Korea, which experienced colonial rule, as well as several Southeast Asian nations.
As the controversy continued, Jungkook expressed his apologies through the fan communication platform Weverse right after the performance, saying, "I sincerely apologize for disappointing and causing discomfort to many due to the phrase on the hat I wore during rehearsal. I take seriously the disappointment and hurt caused by my lack of understanding of the historical and political significance of the phrase, and I accept it with a heavy heart."
He added, "I am truly sorry. There is no excuse for any reason. I was lacking and careless. I will think and act more deeply about everything in the future. I humbly accept all criticism and feedback regarding my mistake."
Jungkook stated that he immediately disposed of the hat.

Subsequently, according to Star Today’s investigation, it was confirmed that Jungkook did not purchase the hat himself but received it as a gift from an acquaintance.
Regarding this controversy, some fans view it as a pure artist's fashion without any particular intent, while others have expressed negative reactions, arguing that there was excessive ignorance about history as a Korean and K-pop artist.
This phrase is sensitive as it suggests a political inclination, reminiscent of Donald Trump's campaign slogan "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN." Former President Yoon Suk-yeol was also seen wearing a hat with the phrase "MAKE KOREA GREAT AGAIN" while embracing supporters during his departure from the presidential residence last April.
Meanwhile, Jungkook was discharged from the army on the 11th and is reportedly discussing his return to the full team with the members.
