Hip-hop star Kanye West (YE), who has been embroiled in controversy after releasing a single praising Adolf Hitler, has ultimately canceled his concert in Korea.
On the 19th, Coupang Play announced, “Due to Kanye's recent controversy, the ‘YE Concert in Korea’ scheduled for May 31 has been unfortunately canceled.” Accordingly, the sale of commemorative MD products for the concert will also be halted starting at 1 PM on the 19th.
Kanye West released a single titled “Hail Hitler” on the 8th (local time).
“Hail Hitler” is a song that praises the German dictator Adolf Hitler, featuring lyrics in the chorus that say, “They don’t understand what I’m saying on Twitter, Hail Hitler.” The latter part of the song even includes actual speeches by Hitler.
The impact was particularly significant as the day Kanye West released the new song coincided with the anniversary of the victory in World War II in Europe.
Jim Burke, a representative of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a U.S. Jewish human rights organization, expressed his displeasure in an interview with Billboard magazine, stating, “Releasing this song on a day that commemorates the defeat of the Nazi regime is a clear hate speech.”
Since 2022, Kanye West has consistently made anti-Semitic remarks and praised the Nazis. In particular, in February, he shocked many by posting on his social media account, “I am a Nazi. I like Hitler.”
