“We will be the generation to bring a band boom.”
“We want to be the closest band that is always by the public's side.”
The spirit of the band Lucy was remarkable. In a music industry dominated by idol group songs, they proclaimed a band boom and identified themselves as the main characters.
Lucy (Shin Ye-chan, Choi Sang-yeop, Jo Won-sang, Shin Kwang-il) recently released their sixth EP album ‘Wajangchang’. They presented a total of 6 songs to their fans, including the title tracks ‘Jamkkae’ and ‘Hama’, as well as ‘Naega Deo’, ‘Ttukttak’, ‘Miwohaji Anado Doel Su Maru Naneun Iyoo’, and ‘Blue’.
Choi Sang-yeop expressed, “All the members are satisfied with this album. We hope it will be loved as we have completed it with songs that can fully meet expectations.”
With member Shin Kwang-il having enlisted in September last year, Lucy is currently continuing their activities as a trio. Although it was expected that the absence of the drummer and vocal member would put a heavy burden on main vocalist Choi Sang-yeop, the remaining members are evenly sharing the vocal responsibilities.
Shin Ye-chan explained, “We prepared the album while thinking a lot about how the three of us should proceed. We tried to show a good image by making slight changes from our previous appearance. We all agreed to create music that everyone can easily feel and sing along to, moving beyond the difficult and specialized music styles we previously had.”
He added, “We worked on this album so that when you hear a Lucy song, you can immediately recognize it as a Lucy track. Our unique color is infused in it,” showing confidence in the album.

Lucy started as the first band presented by Mystic Story, led by singer Yoon Jong-shin. They were formed in 2019 through the band audition program JTBC Super Band, where they won second place. As the years have passed, they have grown in recognition and musical ability, and last year they were selected as the band to lead in 2024 at the ‘Korea First Brand Awards’.
In particular, they have headlined major domestic festivals and have received love calls from overseas, including Taiwan and Indonesia, rapidly growing as a global band.
Choi Sang-yeop stated, “I don’t really feel the popularity. Seeing other band artists doing well makes me realize that we are also doing our part,” and expressed his determination, saying, “We want to work harder to lead a massive band boom in the music industry.”
Choi Sang-yeop pointed out the advantage of band music as its ‘long lifespan’, saying, “I want to create music that evokes nostalgia whenever you listen to it. Music that everyone, regardless of age or gender, can relate to and cherish.”
It is not an exaggeration to say that they are at the center of the band boom. Having taken over domestic festivals, Lucy held their first world tour last year. They have risen as representatives of the K-band scene, touring major cities in Asia and North America, including Seoul.
Shin Ye-chan remarked, “The fact that we can do what we want and bring happiness to many people is a great joy and I think it represents youth,” and added, “Seeing various generations enjoy our music makes me feel grateful yet responsible to work on our lyrics and music.”
Jo Won-sang also mentioned the band boom, reflecting, “It has been 5 years since our debut. I have never felt disappointed during our activities. We have built a solid fan base, and after enduring for 5 years, I thought we could become a long-lasting band.”
Choi Sang-yeop, who has improved in skill, stated, “I believe we have been steadily building our own foundation by creating various forms of albums like EPs and singles,” and expressed his determination, saying, “When Kwang-il returns from the military, I want us to create a high-quality full album together. Until then, we will lay down a good path for Lucy.”

They have confidence but do not lose their humility. Jo Won-sang said, “I believe we should have the skills to match the love we receive. In fact, there is fear regarding popularity and attention, but I only think about being grateful and doing better.”
With the release of this album, Lucy will hold a solo concert for three days from May 2 to 4 at Korea University’s Hwajeong Gymnasium in Seoul.
Gradually expanding their stage size from festivals to solo concerts, Lucy has set their ultimate goal to perform at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Arena.
Choi Sang-yeop said, “I plan to work hard so that people can say, ‘This is the ultimate form of a band’,” and envisioned, “If we challenge ourselves in one field, we should become a role model for many and make a mark.”
He added, “I hope that many artists, including us, and many fans will enjoy music together and not lose their wonderful youth.”
In conclusion, Lucy set their goal, stating, “We will approach listeners with sincere music. We will stay by the public as a truthful band without any falsehood for a long time.”
