Actress Shin Eun-soo (23) delivered the excitement of first love through 'The History of Confession'.
The Netflix film 'The History of Confession' depicts the youth romance of 19-year-old Park Se-ri, who plans a strategy to straighten her lifelong complex of curly hair before her once-in-a-lifetime confession, and gets entangled with transfer student Han Yoon-seok. It recorded 6.2 million views within three days of its release, ranking third in the global (non-English) film category.
In this work, Shin Eun-soo played the role of Park Se-ri, a professional confessor with a 0% success rate.
When asked about her feelings on the global third place ranking, Shin Eun-soo said, "I'm grateful," adding, "It's such a fun and truly precious work. I'm happy that the results turned out well." She continued, "I've played many calm and cynical roles until now, but I think I was able to show a bright and energetic side of myself for the first time."
Shin Eun-soo mentioned that when she read the script for 'The History of Confession', the biggest feeling she had was happiness. "I felt a pleasant sense of happiness when I read the script. It was cute and lovely, and I had expectations because it was a character I hadn't played before. I hoped that viewers would feel the same happiness and joy that I felt," she said.
Shin Eun-soo said that Se-ri from 'The History of Confession' resembled her a lot.
She stated, "Se-ri had a high synchronization rate with me. She resembled me the most, and people said they could see a lot of me in her. While Se-ri is a high-energy friend, I'm not always like that. I tend to collapse when I get home. Se-ri's default is to be a friend with good energy, so I tried to keep that up on set," she confessed.
She added, "In reality, I'm more of a person who smiles rather than a funny type. I reacted a lot. In that sense, I think I was similar to Se-ri. My friends used to tease me about Se-ri. I was like that too," reminiscing about her school days.
She also mentioned that the atmosphere on set was good, saying, "While filming, I thought a lot about my high school days. I got close to my friends by eating together before filming. During breaks, we played around like we were having fun," she revealed.

She also mentioned working with Gong Myung, who is eight years her senior.
Shin Eun-soo said, "I didn't feel burdened by the age difference. Gong Myung oppa really supported me. He is so bright and has a good personality that everyone filmed like friends," adding, "I relied on him a lot. It was almost my first time as a lead. Naturally, I felt some pressure and thought I had to do well, but he allowed me to do what I wanted. He made it possible for me to focus on acting. I thought, 'He is indeed a senior.' He was cool. Even when he was busy, he prepared the script diligently, and I thought he was a really wonderful person," expressing her gratitude.
Regarding the love scenes with Gong Myung, she said, "The ticklish and sweet scenes with Yoon-seok felt like the emotions of first love were well captured. It was so fresh and exciting that it remains memorable," adding, "When we filmed the kissing scene, I tried to maintain that ticklish atmosphere. Oppa led it really well. The director also said it was great," she said shyly.
What was Shin Eun-soo's first love like?
She shared, "I was in an official couple in kindergarten. We naturally sat next to each other. Everyone left our seats empty. It was practically like we were already dating. That kid's aunt told him to give a ring to the girl he liked, and he gave it to me. I was so happy, but then he transferred schools. I have a sad memory of that. Kindergarten was the most romantic time for me," she joked.
She continued, "What's interesting about Se-ri is that I'm not good at confessing. I think a lot about it. But Se-ri expresses her feelings honestly and without malice, saying what she wants to say. I think I envied that."
Regarding her dialect acting, she said, "I received a lot of help from a dialect teacher. I memorized the entire script, but changing what I memorized was harder. The teacher taught me how to say the same meaning in different words when I kept making mistakes, so I acted flexibly," adding, "The teacher was proud and said, 'You did well.' That gave me strength."

Like Se-ri, who has a complex about her curly hair, Shin Eun-soo revealed that she was stressed due to atopy in the past.
Shin Eun-soo said, "I had atopy since I was a baby because my skin is sensitive. There were times in school when I was embarrassed to wear short sleeves because I had atopy on my body," she confessed.
She added, "Now I've improved a lot, but there was a moment when I accepted myself. It got better when I acknowledged it. Now I take care of my skin diligently and eat less flour. I've realized that being natural is better. And I think I got better when I realized that my personal concerns are not as important to others as I thought," she added.
Shin Eun-soo debuted in 2016 with the film 'The Vanished Time' and has since appeared in dramas like 'Shining Watermelon' and 'Lighting Store', as well as films like 'Gwaedam Manchan' and 'Inrang'.
She expressed, "Lately, I've been thinking a lot about how I haven't done much in the genre field. I haven't tried action either, so I want to give it a shot. I want to try deeper acting," she said.
