Talented actors have come together fiercely. Through the thriller film ‘84 Square Meters’ featuring Kang Ha-neul, Yeom Hye-ran, and Seo Hyun-woo.
Director Kim Tae-jun explained at the production presentation of the Netflix film ‘84 Square Meters’ held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel on the morning of the 14th, “I hoped that Woo-sung would be a portrait of the youth of this era. I wanted to reflect the realistic aspects and desires that today’s youth have.”
He continued, “Since the situation that Sa Woo-sung is in is quite harsh, I was worried that he might become an excessively dark character. So, this character had to be played by Kang Ha-neul. I thought that if the actor's unique positive image was applied, he could transform from a simply dark character into a poignant one.”
‘84 Square Meters’ is an unpredictable thriller about Woo-sung (Kang Ha-neul), a member of the “young people who have succeeded in buying their own home” who suffers from mysterious floor noise in his 84 square meter apartment. It captures the suspense between characters surrounding the issue of floor noise in a standard 84 square meter apartment.

Kang Ha-neul introduced his character, saying, “It’s really poignant. He is a young man who has worked very hard, buying an apartment by exhausting everything from housing loans, retirement funds, one-room deposits, his mother’s land, to his soul. But after moving in, he becomes stressed and weak due to unexplained floor noise.”
He also expressed his affection for the script, saying, “Usually, scripts are written to help readers understand the characters. The script written by the director felt like a storyboard for directing. As soon as I saw the script, I could picture the director’s style. I read it all in one sitting.”
He mentioned that he focused on how to finish quickly during each filming, saying, “When I first read the script, there were many characters. But I ended up filming alone every time,” jokingly adding, “Anyway, I wanted to show how I gradually became more sensitive and reached the climax.”

Seo Hyun-woo made everyone laugh by saying, “When I went to the set, there was a ghost living there.”
He described the atmosphere, saying, “It felt like an actor with the texture of the apartment walls was residing there,” and added, “It was very dark, and while digging into something, I was happy to spread good energy to everyone while working. I was very glad to work with the kind-hearted Kang Ha-neul, whom I want to collaborate with in the future.”
He also expressed satisfaction with the project, stating, “I could relate a lot since I was actually experiencing floor noise. While there are victims suffering from noise, those who inevitably make noise are also in a tough situation. It was a scenario that resonated with me in many ways,” and added, “I found it interesting from the beginning and was drawn to the energetic role that I hadn’t done before.”
‘Jin-ho’, who has scars and tattoos all over his body, is a character with a mysterious aura and an intimidating presence that makes ‘Woo-sung’ tense. Seo Hyun-woo explained, “The director asked for a practical fighter’s body rather than a fashionable muscular one, so I practiced a lot of action to give a physical sense of intimidation.”

Yeom Hye-ran played the role of Eun-hwa, the representative of the residents living in the top-floor penthouse. This character is quite different from her previous work ‘Poksak Soksuda’.
“I feel nervous and excited,” Yeom Hye-ran explained, “Eun-hwa is a character that is different from the ones I’ve played so far.”
She emphasized, “She is a character that is not commonly seen and is a wealthy person with power. As a former prosecutor, she knows how to evade the law. I thought this character could help me with my desires. I approached her as someone who makes you think, ‘If I use this person well, I might benefit from her.’”
Recalling her memories of filming on the penthouse set, she said, “The art team was very nervous because there were many expensive items. When I asked, ‘What is this?’ they said, ‘This glass is Hermes, worth ten million won…’”
Kang Ha-neul then joked, “That’s the opposite of me, right?” and added, “I told the art team that they could throw everything and break it if they wanted,” making everyone laugh.
‘84 Square Meters’, featuring Kang Ha-neul, Yeom Hye-ran, and Seo Hyun-woo, will be released worldwide on Netflix on the 18th.
