In the movie ‘The Universal Reader’s Perspective,’ actors Ahn Hyo-seop, Shin Seung-ho, and Kwon Eun-sung deliver a narrative of growth that resonates and creates synergy.
The film ‘The Universal Reader’s Perspective’ is a fantasy action movie where the world of a novel that has been serialized for over 10 years becomes reality on the day it concludes, and the only reader, Kim Dok-ja, along with the protagonist Yoo Jung-hyuk and his companions, strives to survive in a world that has been destroyed. Among them, Kim Dok-ja (Ahn Hyo-seop), Lee Hyun-seong (Shin Seung-ho), and Lee Gil-young (Kwon Eun-sung) promise diverse fun and intense empathy through their narratives as unyielding underdog characters.
The protagonists of ‘The Universal Reader’s Perspective’ are ordinary individuals that we can commonly see around us. They each solve the life-and-death scenarios they face in the world of the novel in their own unique ways, showcasing the charm of underdog growth characters.
Kim Dok-ja (Ahn Hyo-seop), the only reader of the novel ‘Three Ways to Survive in a Destroyed World’ and an ordinary office worker, is just one person among the countless crowd in the subway at the beginning of the film. However, the moment the world of the novel unfolds before his eyes, he transforms into the true protagonist who moves towards a conclusion where everyone survives together. Lacking flashy weapons or skills, Kim Dok-ja, who uniquely knows the ending of the novel, gradually becomes stronger while predicting all developments. The coins he earns as rewards enhance his combat abilities, and as he navigates crises with his companions, his inner self also becomes stronger. Ahn Hyo-seop expresses his desire to portray Kim Dok-ja as someone who holds everyone’s hands, raising curiosity about how the conclusion they will write together will unfold.
Lee Hyun-seong (Shin Seung-ho) is a soldier with powerful strength and defense, serving as a solid pillar protecting citizens and his comrades in threatening situations, but he harbors unspoken pain within. The past that envelops him ultimately brings about a significant crisis, but Lee Hyun-seong moves forward with an indomitable will. Shin Seung-ho reveals, “There is a scene where he is bound by memories of the past during the battle, and I wanted to express the stark contrast before and after that,” raising expectations for Lee Hyun-seong’s growth narrative as he steps forward from his pain.
Lee Gil-young (Kwon Eun-sung), an ordinary boy who loves insects, survives with Kim Dok-ja’s help in the subway and quickly adapts to change, gaining the ability to communicate with insects and becoming a valuable companion. Kwon Eun-sung describes, “Gil-young is a confident and brave friend,” adding curiosity about his unpredictable presence that will surprise the audience with his contributions. It’s worth looking forward to his performance, which will showcase indispensable abilities for the team. The gathering of growth characters, rather than complete heroes, overcoming crises and evolving into a true ‘team’ draws attention.
‘The Universal Reader’s Perspective’ will be available in theaters nationwide on the 23rd.
