Actress Kim Gyu-ri expressed her distress over being referred to as a ‘blacklist actor’.
On the morning of the 29th, at the production presentation of the movie ‘Shinmyeong’ held at Yongsan CGV, Kim Gyu-ri began by saying, “I wonder if I’m a specialized actress for the First Lady. This is already the second time.”
She continued, “When I got this project, I thought I would have to let everything go. I wanted to empty my mind and embody Yoon Ji-hee from ‘Shinmyeong’. I was thrilled throughout the filming of the movie.”
She added, “The script was so interesting that I had a nightmare after reading it and going to sleep. I don’t usually have nightmares, but the one I had was bizarre. The dream was so strange, and the sense of fear was indescribable. Since I love horror movies and stories, if I was scared to this extent, I think the audience will enjoy it.”
On that day, producer Jeong Cheon-soo mentioned during interviews with the actors, “The casting for this movie was particularly crucial. They say it only gathered leftist actors. Kim Gyu-ri was an actor on the blacklist.”
In response, Kim Gyu-ri bowed her head and said, “Please leave me alone. How long will you keep holding onto this leash? This kind of question is really uncomfortable. Is that all you have to ask me? It’s already been several years since that happened.”
‘Shinmyeong’ is an occult thriller that depicts the process of Yoon Ji-hee (Kim Gyu-ri), who falls into the world of shamanism, approaching the highest power in South Korea through plastic surgery and identity laundering. It combines sensitive issues of real politics such as shamanism, shamans, prosecutorial power, close ties with Japanese far-right forces, martial law crises, and the media's pursuit of truth with occult imagination.
It will be released on June 2.
