
The movie ‘Victory’ has maintained its position at the top of the weekend box office for three consecutive weeks.
According to the integrated computer network for movie ticket sales from the Korean Film Council on the 14th, ‘Victory’ (directed by Kim Hyung-joo) attracted 306,026 viewers over the past weekend (11th-13th), securing the number one spot at the box office. The cumulative audience count is 1,807,607.
Released on the 26th of last month, the film depicts the story of Korea's greatest Go legend, Cho Hun-hyun (played by Lee Byung-hun), who, after losing a match against his disciple Lee Chang-ho (played by Yoo Ah-in), challenges himself to reach the top once again with his innate competitive spirit.
Despite the risk posed by Yoo Ah-in's suspension of activities due to a drug scandal, ‘Victory’ has steadily gathered audiences and surpassed the break-even point of 1.8 million viewers, finally seeing the light after four years of filming.
In second place is ‘Amateur’ (directed by James Hawes). During the same period, it attracted 47,963 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience count to 74,385.
Released on the 9th, ‘Amateur’ is an intelligent spy thriller about CIA codebreaker Charlie Heller (played by Rami Malek), who, with no field experience, takes on a massive terrorist organization to avenge his murdered wife using his exceptional intellect and skills.
In third place is ‘Lobby’ (directed by Ha Jung-woo). It attracted 41,512 viewers, with a cumulative audience count of 243,098.
Released on the 2nd, ‘Lobby’ tells the story of a startup CEO, Chang-wook (played by Ha Jung-woo), who knows nothing but research and begins his first-ever lobbying golf game to secure a 4 trillion won national project. This is Ha Jung-woo's third directorial work following ‘Roller Coaster’ and ‘Heo Sam-kwan’.
