“In a reality where laughter and warmth are fading away, I hope the audience can smile and recall the excitement and warmth of first love that they have forgotten.”
A woman who has no time to love and a man who has failed in love, the fateful romance of two clumsy young adults, 'Romance' (directed by Han Man-taek).
The film unveiled its story at a press screening held at Lotte Cinema in Konkuk University on the 21st. The human romantic comedy begins when 'Hye-kyung' (Moon Ye-won), who unexpectedly starts running a restaurant after her mother's sudden death, meets 'Hyun-woo' (Park Sang-nam), a food expert. Hye-kyung is still clumsy in love even in her 30s, while Hyun-woo is a lovable younger man who can't be hated, despite being a loser who goes on food tours with his ex-girlfriend.
After 7 years since the movie 'Gonjiam' (2018), Moon Ye-won plays the female lead 'Hye-kyung', while Park Sang-nam plays the male lead 'Hyun-woo', who falls in fateful love with her.
Director Han Man-taek, who took the megaphone, said, “After making films that involve stabbing, bleeding, and killing, I finally got to direct a sweet romance film for the first time.”
He mentioned, “There have been many horror thrillers focused on murder, and there were also human comedies like 'Undercover' and 'Hero',” adding, “I feel that warm films with a human touch are particularly needed these days. Given the chaotic times, my desire to create such a film has grown stronger, leading to this release.”
One day, Hye-kyung suddenly gets fired from her job, and even more unexpectedly, her mother passes away, leaving her to take over the restaurant. She has no time to think about love, let alone eat. Then, she discovers that her embarrassing video has been spread on social media and tracks down the original poster, 'Hyun-woo'.
Hyun-woo, who accidentally posted Hye-kyung's video on social media, offers to help her regain her position at the original restaurant as an apology. Thus, the two start eating together and gradually fall for each other while uncovering the secrets of the restaurant.
Moon Ye-won shared about her co-star Park Sang-nam, saying, “I met him for the first time through this film. At first glance, he looks like a glamorous prince, so I was worried he might be cold,” adding, “But once we started working together, I found out he has a tall stature and a cute, puppy-like side. He also has a bit of a clumsy charm,” which brought laughter.
She continued, “He was very accommodating, making it easy for me to approach him. I was especially shy and embarrassed while filming the kissing scene, but he was a great support. He helped me a lot by being a solid pillar.”
'Romance', which joyfully captures the ordinary love of youth that everyone has experienced at least once, will be released on the 27th.
