‘Goldden Girl’ Jung Hye In's first melodrama, Choi Daniel's return to the screen after 7 years, the reunion of rivals with Jung Hye In, and Kim Jung Hwa, who decided to 'break down' for the first time since her debut, all came together for the movie ‘Sunny Day’.

On the afternoon of the 7th, a press screening for the movie ‘Sunny Day’ (directed by Lee Chang Mu) was held at CGV Yongsan in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The film tells the story of superstar Oh Sun Hee (played by Jung Hye In), who returns to her hometown of Wando after a divorce lawsuit, and meets her first love, the pure-hearted Jo Dong Pil (played by Choi Daniel), along with hometown friends, giving each other the courage to start anew in this restart happy movie.

Jung Hye In said, “I was very nervous because it was a new genre challenge,” and added, “Fortunately, everyone made it so comfortable that I was able to show a lot of energy.”

She expressed her feelings, saying, “I’ve always wanted to try melodrama. Since I’ve only played strong roles until now, I had a desire to do a fresh and beautiful melodrama, and I was excited to shoot with wonderful seniors. It was a precious and grateful experience.”

Choi Daniel, returning to the screen after 7 years, said, “I didn’t realize so much time had passed. I had done a few genre films, but at some point, I thought about it. When I was young, Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis made a lot of action movies, but they also made many family films. I liked those kinds of movies.”

He continued, “I thought that someday I would make such a movie and show it to my children later. I believe this movie has points that people of all ages can comfortably watch. So I looked at the script of this movie purely. These days, there are many dopamine-pumping contents, but in the midst of that, I liked that it could provide warmth while being comfortably watched.”

In the film, Jung Hye In plays the role of superstar Oh Sun Hee, who returns to her hometown of Wando after a divorce lawsuit, while Kang Eun Tak plays her husband, the construction company CEO Kang Seong Ki, who stops at nothing for success. The two reunited after 7 years since the 2018 drama ‘Until the End of Love’.

Jung Hye In expressed her gratitude about her chemistry with Kang Eun Tak, saying, “We were rivals in a previous work,” and laughed, “I felt a little more comfortable, and he led me well on set so that I wouldn’t be nervous. I learned a lot.”

Kang Eun Tak humorously responded, “In the drama, Jung Hye In and I were in a relationship where we were rivals going through a divorce lawsuit, but I never thought we would meet again years later to do a divorce lawsuit. Doing it twice was actually fine.”

He continued, “In a cheerful atmosphere, I had to curse and get angry alone. I had to suddenly change from laughing to being serious, so I thought about keeping my distance. I was happy because we were that close.”

Director Lee Chang Mu mentioned that “Jung Hye In’s soccer skills are off the charts” while talking about ‘futsal’. When asked if she had played soccer with other actors, Jung Hye In replied, “Yesterday, I filmed a variety show with Choi Daniel and Han Sang Jin, and we played a futsal match there. I couldn’t play futsal during the shoot because it was busy, but just by looking at them, I could tell they had good physiques and would be good at it. Senior Han Sang Jin also likes basketball, so I thought he would be good at it.”

Jung Hye In burst into laughter and added, “We played fun games.” She continued, “During the shoot, they took good care of me, and I relied on them a lot, but they seemed scared of the ball. They are tall, but...” and said, “I think we’ll be able to see a lot of cute moments from that variety show.”

Choi Daniel smiled and said, “I have many good memories acting with Jung Hye In. We really became close.” Regarding the ending kiss scene, he said, “Originally, it was supposed to be an epilogue or a post-credit scene, but it was inserted into the main part. It’s a good scene that hints, ‘They will live beautifully together.’”

Kim Jung Hwa, who returned to the screen after a long time and challenged herself with Jeolla dialect acting and bare-faced acting, said, “One day, the production company representative called me and said, ‘Jung Hwa, didn’t you say you would come when it was time to break down?’ Then he asked if I could look at a script he wanted to give me. I told him I would do it even before reading the script.”

She expressed her joy, saying, “I tend to like stories that smell of humanity, and this movie was definitely like that. I was happy to be able to participate in such a work,” and added, “Honestly, I wonder if I should have broken down more. I didn’t wear any makeup. My lips were blue from the cold, and that natural look was not something I had many works with. I was afraid of the Jeolla dialect acting, but I worked hard with the dialect professor and the teacher who coached me.”

‘Sunny Day’ will be released on the 19th.
