Netflix is holding an all-day press screening for the highly anticipated global series ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 today (23rd). It is literally an all-day screening.
The all-day screening of ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 for domestic media will take place from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Samsung Megabox COEX in Seoul.
As events related to ‘Squid Game’ are being held worldwide, this is the first time that Netflix content is being screened in theaters in South Korea.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed confidence, stating, “It is fate that it is released in such times,” and added, “The conflicts and upheavals happening in our country and around the world will allow us to discover scenes that connect the game world and reality once again. It is not a story detached from the world, but a story for everyone.”
‘Squid Game’ Season 2 tells the story of ‘Gi-hun’ (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to participate in the game seeking revenge, and his fierce confrontation with the ‘Frontman’ (Lee Byung-hun), as the real game begins again. The original director Hwang Dong-hyuk is once again in charge of directing, writing, and producing, with returning cast members including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. New cast members include Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee Seo-hwan, Jo Yu-ri, TOP (Choi Seung-hyun), and Oh Dal-soo.
Previously, Netflix released the main trailer for Season 2 on the 27th, which reveals the reason why the winner Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) challenges the game again. Gi-hun demands to be allowed to participate in the game again, wearing the participant number 456 that he had in Season 1.
His goal this time is not to win the game but to end it. He tries to inform and unite the participants who, like him in the past, are desperate for money. However, the participants blinded by money do not listen to Gi-hun.
The confrontation between the game organizer, the Frontman (played by Lee Byung-hun), and Gi-hun is also foreshadowed. Gi-hun repeatedly expresses his determination, saying, “I’m trying to stop that game,” but the Frontman cynically replies, “The game won’t end as long as the world doesn’t change.” Gi-hun’s aura, crying out, “We have to fight those who created this game,” further heightens expectations for Season 2.
With the risk of cast members like TOP already being labeled as unlikable in South Korea, attention is focused on whether ‘Squid Game 2’ can continue the phenomenon of the original series through the power of its content.
Meanwhile, ‘Squid Game’ created a global phenomenon through its story of people participating in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the last winner. It was the first non-English language drama to win an Emmy Award in the United States.
