The musical film ‘Wicked’ (directed by Jon Chu) has achieved the remarkable feat of being nominated in four major categories at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
According to the announcement from the Golden Globe committee on the 10th (Korean time), the film ‘Wicked’ has been nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Supporting Actress, and the Box Office Excellence Award.
In particular, alongside its overseas mega-hit status, it has attracted 1.5 million viewers domestically, and is set to hold sing-along screenings due to the positive reviews.
The film has grossed approximately $322.1 million (about 459.8 billion won) in North America, and over $457.5 million (653 billion won) worldwide. This has also broken the box office record for Broadway musical adaptations, showcasing its impressive box office power. The film ‘Wicked’, which has become a legend in musical cinema, is expected to continue its global box office phenomenon until the end of the year.
The film ‘Wicked’ tells the story of two very different characters, ‘Elphaba’ (played by Cynthia Erivo), who has yet to discover her true power, and ‘Glinda’ (played by Ariana Grande), who has yet to uncover her true nature, as they build a friendship while facing unexpected crises and adventures.
The Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 5 of next year.
