Veteran actor Park Sang-jo passed away on the 4th after battling lung cancer. He was 80 years old.
According to his family and Yonhap News on the 16th, Park Sang-jo passed away around 2 PM at a hospital in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province. He had been receiving chemotherapy since being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last August, but his condition worsened recently, leading to his passing. It is reported that he had been hospitalized in the emergency room since August.
Born in 1945, Park Sang-jo graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in Theater and Film and began his acting career in 1969 as part of MBC's first talent recruitment.
He appeared in numerous popular dramas such as 'Four Seasons Diary', 'Three Families Under One Roof', 'Sandglass', 'Tears of the Dragon', 'Taejo Wang Geon', 'Jang Hee-bin', 'Detective Park Moon-soo', 'King Sejong the Great', and 'King Taejong Lee Bang-won', maintaining a strong presence in the home theater.
In particular, he gained recognition for portraying various criminals in MBC's 'Investigation Team Leader' and left a lasting impression as General Eun-bu in KBS's historical drama 'Taejo Wang Geon'.
The deceased's funeral hall has been set up at a hospital funeral home in Ilsan. The funeral will be held quietly.
