Lee Si-an (10), the son of former national soccer player Lee Dong-gook (46), has been accepted into the Los Angeles (LA) Galaxy youth team of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Lee Soo-jin, the wife of Lee Dong-gook, shared the news of her son's successful entry test for LA Galaxy on her SNS on the 24th, stating, “This is a precious and valuable result, not just for joining a soccer team, but because Si-an was recognized solely for his efforts and skills.”
Lee Soo-jin explained, “I have drawn countless scenarios regarding my son's future and have worried and pondered late into the night,” adding, “If Si-an were to join a team like Jeonbuk Hyundai, it would be true that I feared his hard work would not be fully recognized and that comments like ‘It’s because of his dad’ or ‘It’s favoritism’ would follow him,” explaining the background of his challenge to join the youth team in the U.S.
However, it seems that Si-an's move to the U.S. has not been finalized yet.
Lee Soo-jin stated, “Nothing has been decided yet, but for Si-an's dream, and to ensure that dream shines as his own and not anyone else's, I will continue to think and make choices moving forward.”
Si-an gained affection in the past when he appeared with his father Lee Dong-gook on the KBS2 variety show ‘The Return of Superman,’ where he was lovingly nicknamed ‘Daebak.’
