Once reigning over the ice, the 'Short Track Emperor' Kim Dong-seong has laid the groundwork to return to the ice rink.
On the 21st, Kim Dong-seong's wife, In Min-jeong, revealed the short track coaching certification issued by the Korea Skating Union on Instagram. In a brief message stating "Good job" without further explanation, her support and pride for her husband were evident.
Last month, Kim Dong-seong attended the '2025 Short Track Coaching Workshop' held at the Taereung Training Center. This marks his return after 8 years. During this time, he has been known to have supported himself as a day laborer in construction while preparing to obtain his coaching certification.
Kim Dong-seong divorced his wife, Oh Mo, in 2018 after 14 years of marriage, and was listed on 'Bad Fathers' in 2020 for failing to pay child support on time. He later remarried In Min-jeong in May 2021.
Kim Dong-seong won a gold medal in the men's 1000m at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics and led the golden age of Korean short track by winning multiple medals, including three gold medals at the Asian Games. It remains to be seen whether this certification will serve as a new starting point for 'Ice Coach Kim Dong-seong'.
