"At the age of thirty..."
Actor Lee Byung-hun opened the 30th Busan International Film Festival. He is the first male solo host of the opening ceremony and the lead actor of the opening film.
On the afternoon of the 17th, Lee Byung-hun took the stage at the opening ceremony of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (abbreviated as BIFF) held at the Busan Cinema Center, stating, "The small dream that started in Busan 30 years ago has now transformed into a grand festival and has become a representative of Asia. I have also become a 30-year veteran actor."
He reflected, "I have grown alongside the Busan Film Festival. There are particularly memorable moments in that long journey. When I first came here, I wondered if I could ever stand on stage or see my face on the screen."
He continued, "But here I am standing. Time changes us a lot, but the excitement of film remains unchanged and always brings a new beginning. I am about to embark on another beginning," announcing the official start of the film festival.
He plays the lead role in the opening film "The Last Train" (directed by Park Chan-wook). The film tells the story of a company employee, Mansoo (Lee Byung-hun), who feels satisfied with his life but suddenly gets fired. To protect his wife and two children and to keep the house he worked hard to acquire, he prepares for his own war towards re-employment.
This year's Busan International Film Festival will officially screen a total of 241 films and will be held for ten days until the 26th at the Busan Cinema Center.
