Singer Sung Si-kyung has apologized regarding the unregistered operation of his one-person agency 'SK Jae-won', but he has been reported for illegal operation.
According to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul on the 17th, Sung Si-kyung is under investigation after a report was filed through the National Petition Center for violating the Act on the Development of the Public Culture and Arts Industry.
The complainant emphasized that "Sung Si-kyung's side cannot be exempted on the grounds of not being aware" and that "the legal compliance obligations also apply to public cultural artists and their surrounding organizations with significant social influence."
In particular, it was stated that "in a business structure where personal branding and management operations are combined, there is a responsibility to check the legal compliance status of the business using one's name," and that if the unregistered status is left unattended for a long time, both the individual and the organization could face legal and social responsibilities.
Previously, the agency stated, "We completed the establishment of the corporation in accordance with the law in 2011, but we were not aware of the registration obligation for public culture and arts planning businesses introduced after the enactment of the Act on the Development of the Public Culture and Arts Industry in 2014," and added, "We deeply apologize for not being able to proceed with the related procedures." They continued, "As soon as we recognized the facts, we are in the process of registration and plan to faithfully fulfill all legal requirements as soon as possible."
This incident has once again brought the issue of legal compliance regarding the operation of one-person agencies in the entertainment industry to the forefront, and it is expected to have a significant impact across the industry.
