It has been 16 years since the late actress Jang Jin-young passed away.

Jang Jin-young passed away on September 1, 2009, after battling stomach cancer. She ended her life at the age of 37, just over a year after being diagnosed with cancer.

In September 2008, she was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer and began her treatment. She even traveled to the United States for recuperation in July of the following year, but her condition did not improve.

The love story between the deceased and her husband, Kim Young-kyun, adds to the tragedy. After learning about Jang Jin-young's battle with cancer, Kim reportedly said, "From today, I will be your man," and devoted himself to caring for her after leaving his business.

The couple held their wedding in Las Vegas in July 2009 while receiving treatment in the U.S., and later registered their marriage in Korea, but they were separated by death just three days later.

Born in 1993 as Miss Korea Chungcheongnam-do, Jang Jin-young debuted in 1997 with the drama "Angel in My Heart." She made her entrance into Chungmuro with director Kim Ji-woon’s "The Foul King" in 2000. She later appeared in films such as "Siren," "The Chaser," "Over the Rainbow," "The Scent of Chrysanthemums," "Singles," "Cheongyeon," and "The Unbearable Lightness of Love." The drama "Lobbyist" in 2007 is her last work.

Jang Jin-young's father, Jang Gil-nam, established the Gyeam Scholarship Foundation in 2010 to honor his daughter. He also provided scholarships to her alma mater, Chungang Girls' High School. In May 2011, a memorial hall for Jang Jin-young was established in Jeonbuk Imsil. Jang Gil-nam passed away last May while preparing for the 15th anniversary of Jang Jin-young's passing.
