Actor Cha In-pyo has won the Hwang Sun-won Literary Award for New Writers.
On the 4th, Cha In-pyo announced on his Instagram account, "I have received the Hwang Sun-won Literary Award for New Writers in 2025 for my novel 'Mermaid Hunting'."
He continued, "It is already overwhelming to have people read my novel, and receiving an award makes me feel sorry and apologetic to many who are walking the path of literature," adding, "I will take this award not as a compliment of 'well written,' but as encouragement of 'now you should write well' and will strive to improve."
Cha In-pyo also wrote, "I published my first novel at 42, and now at 58, I receive the New Writer Award. I feel that life is like a long novel where you only know the ending after reading it to the end."
He expressed his gratitude, saying, "I deeply thank the judges and readers. I will return soon with a new novel and repay the support you have given me. Thank you."
Cha In-pyo has written 'Goodbye Hill', 'Mermaid Hunting', and 'Their Day'. The revised and republished version of 'Goodbye Hill', titled 'If We Look at the Same Star Someday', was selected as a required reading at Oxford University last year.
The award ceremony will be held on the 12th of next month at the Hwang Sun-won Literary Village in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do.
