Actor Han Jin-hee shared a story of gratitude towards actress Youn Yuh-jung amidst a complicated situation with writer Kim Soo-hyun.
On the 29th, a video titled 'Actor Han Jin-hee Episode 5 (The story of cursing Kim Soo-hyun and storming out...!)' was released on the YouTube channel 'Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life'.
In the video, Han Jin-hee recalled his role as a killer in the MBC drama 'The Fifth Column', saying, "It was directed by the late Kim Jong-hak, and he had a strong personality. People who watched 'The Fifth Column' say they only remember that. (It's a grateful work, but) personally, it wasn't very good."
He continued, "After that, Kim Jong-hak cast me in three more projects. I wanted to do them all. He was a very capable director. But I had to give up everything for that scary work by Kim Soo-hyun. What could I have given up? I gave up everything related to Kim Jong-hak."
When Song Seung-hwan said, "At that time, Kim Soo-hyun's status as a writer was tremendous," Han Jin-hee replied, "If it weren't for that person (writer Kim Soo-hyun), would I have continued acting until now? That's what I think. Regardless of the ratings of that person's dramas, I learned acting while working on their projects. Expressing emotions calmly? I was very confused about what that meant. Acting with emotions is easy, right? Getting angry, being sad, those are easy, but being calm without expressions is difficult, and I learned that from that person. But how could I go to Kim Jong-hak's project and skip that person's work? That was impossible."
He then shared, "I don't know if it's true, but when I suddenly became popular at TBC, Kim Soo-hyun was watching TV and said, 'That kid will sweep the nation in the future.' At that time, he was at MBC, and I was at TBC, but he came to scout me at TBC. The first project he did there was 'Lonely Relationship'. Lee Soon-jae, Kim Min-ja, and Han Jin-hee were the main characters," proudly mentioning how he got to appear in the project thanks to writer Kim Soo-hyun.
However, there were many troubles. Han Jin-hee said, "I couldn't keep up. That person is very cold. 'Jin-hee, that's not it. Try again,' he would say, and I was completely frustrated. 'What do you mean?' After that, he cast me again, but when I was practicing, I was like this (gesturing angrily) and stormed out. At that time, I was the best in Korea, but I couldn't stand it. If I had just said 'yes' back then, I would have been loved much earlier, but it took 20 years until the work 'Farewell'."
Behind that was the benefactor Youn Yuh-jung. Han Jin-hee said, "Later, I heard that Youn Yuh-jung said, 'Han Jin-hee! You have a good face and act well.' At that time, we were close, so she was able to persuade him. The result was good."
He added, "While filming in Paris, Youn Yuh-jung, being so stylish, gave me a lot of advice. 'Hey Jin-hee, you can't dress like that. Spend some money,' she said. I said, 'I'll spend money.' When I went to Paris for the shoot, I found out that Youn Yuh-jung had bought all the outfits. So I am grateful. Throughout that time, she went with me to help choose clothes. I am thankful, and we still keep in touch."
