Actor Song Young-kyu (55) apologized for being fined and charged with a summary indictment for drunk driving.

On the 25th, after the news of his drunk driving became known, Song Young-kyu said in a phone call with Ilgan Sports, "I'm really very sorry. I must have been out of my mind. I ruined everything with a moment's mistake," and added, "I was absolutely wrong. I'm really sorry."

Song Young-kyu explained the situation at the time, saying, "At first, I called for a designated driver, but a new acquaintance came to visit, and while we were chatting at a convenience store, the driver left. It was less than a 5-minute drive home, and I made a wrong judgment and drove with cruise control, which led to this situation."

He continued, "After meeting a friend during the day, I wasn't feeling well and had taken throat medicine and muscle relaxants, so I didn't drink much. I think my condition worsened because I was drinking while on medication," and added, "My friends were with me, and we even called for a designated driver, so I don't know how this happened," expressing self-blame.

He reiterated, "I'm very sorry to everyone who trusted and cared for me."

Currently, he is appearing in the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama "I Shopping," and he is also set to appear in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama "Try: We Become Miracles," which is airing its first episode today. He is also listed in the play "Shakespeare in Love."

Regarding this, Song Young-kyu said, "The filming for the drama was completed last year, so I didn't think about taking any measures," and he apologized again for causing damage to the work.

Meanwhile, according to the Yongin Dongbu Police Station, Song Young-kyu was sent to the prosecution without detention at the end of last month on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). He is accused of driving under the influence for about 5 km from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin at around 11 PM on the 19th of last month. It is reported that he was driving home after having drinks with acquaintances.

The police responded to a report stating, "It seems that a person who has been drinking is driving a vehicle," and apprehended Song Young-kyu at the scene. His blood alcohol concentration was found to be at a level that would result in license suspension (0.08% or higher).

Song Young-kyu left a strong impression in films such as "Extreme Job," "Suriname," and "Casino." He is currently without an agency.
