As rumors of former MBC anchor Baek Ji-yeon's debut as a show host arise, GS Retail has dismissed the claims, stating, "Nothing has been decided other than her advisory role."
On the 16th, GS Retail responded to reports of Baek Ji-yeon's debut as a show host, saying, "We are having various internal discussions regarding her activities, but as of now, nothing has been confirmed other than her role as a customer experience (CX) advisor."
A media outlet reported that Baek Ji-yeon would debut as a show host and appear in front of the GS Home Shopping camera on September 4th.
Previously, on the 15th, GS Retail announced that they had appointed former anchor Baek Ji-yeon as a corporate advisor.
In this role, Baek Ji-yeon will provide advisory services across CX, including strengthening corporate value based on customer trust, suggesting brand images that reflect trends and lifestyles, and planning content and communication strategies that encompass TV, mobile, and new media.
GS Retail has invested considerable effort over a long period to recruit the former anchor, and they expect this recruitment to serve as an important opportunity to create new value for the company in the changing media environment.
Meanwhile, Baek Ji-yeon joined MBC as a public recruitment announcer in 1987 and became the first, youngest, and longest-serving female anchor of the main terrestrial news just a year after her entry. A prominent female journalist in South Korea, she left MBC in 1999 and took on the role of advisor at CJ tvN, where she planned and hosted current affairs and interview programs such as "Baek Ji-yeon's End Debate" and "Baek Ji-yeon's People Inside."
She is also active as a model for various commercials and as an adjunct professor, and she runs a communication strategy consulting company.
