Luna, a former member of the group f(x), confessed about her difficult times.
On the 15th, she appeared on KBS1's cultural program 'Morning Yard - Tuesday Guest' alongside the lead of the musical 'Mamma Mia', Choi Jung-won.
On that day, Luna mentioned that her mother was a soprano, explaining, “My mother majored in vocal music, but during the IMF crisis, the economy was tough. So she gave up her dream of singing while helping my grandmother with her sundae soup business.”
She continued, “When you run a business for a long time, you end up inhaling a lot of gas. She suffered from chronic bronchitis, and when she touched the sundae, her nails would get blackened. I hated that as a child. I thought, ‘Why doesn’t my mom have pretty hands like other moms?’ But around the 6th grade, I felt so sorry for my mom. I thought, ‘My mom sings well, is beautiful, and is bright, but she has gone through so much hardship.’”
Luna also shared, “I hoped that my mom and dad would have less hardship and live comfortably while achieving their dreams, so I practiced without a day off from the age of 14.”
After going through trainee life, Luna debuted with f(x) in 2009 and received great love. However, she explained that she suffered from pain from the age of 25 to 30. The year 2019, when Luna was 25, was also the year f(x) member Sulli passed away.
Recalling that time, Luna said, “I couldn’t meet anyone. I just repeated the cycle of breathing, waking up, working, and resting at home. During that time, my mom and older sister accompanied me on all my schedules. They took care of me because I couldn’t be alone.”
She added, “I considered giving up on being an idol and a singer. I felt unqualified. At that time, my mom said, ‘No matter what, you have a place to return to, so what if you fail a little? What if you’re a little lacking? It’s okay to challenge everything you want to do, and it would be good to give up then if you need to.’ Thanks to my mom’s words, I was able to endure those truly painful 5 years and rise again.”
Luna will take the stage in the musical 'Mamma Mia', which will be held at the LG Arts Center in Seoul from the 26th to October 25th.
