The group Baby Don’t Cry has released a statement regarding the controversy over sexual content.
The agency P Nation stated on the 23rd, “We acknowledge that some fans and the public have raised concerns and controversies regarding the teaser video for our debut title track ‘F Girl’. We sincerely apologize to anyone who felt discomfort or worry due to this video.”
The agency continued, “The title track ‘F Girl’ conveys a message of ‘please look at me and understand me as I am’, free from the standards set by others, such as sexual scores (like A-F grades). The first scene of the ‘F Girl’ music video Teaser 1 depicts a rebellious yet cheerful setting, expressing actions like ‘chewing gum’ and ‘sucking on candy’. The overall flow and content of the upcoming music video do not include any provocative or sexual representations.”
They added, “Regardless of the reasons, to prevent misunderstandings and controversies in advance, we have decided to remove the scene in question from the main music video. This decision is primarily aimed at protecting the members of Baby Don’t Cry and respecting the valuable opinions of our fans.”
The agency also addressed the ‘cherry’ symbol used by Baby Don’t Cry, stating, “The image of cherries, which have a small but vibrant color, aligns with the members' image, leading us to choose cherries as the group’s symbol. Cherries are used positively in various global brands and content, and at no point during our planning process was the negative meaning or association of cherries considered or intended.”
Baby Don’t Cry, launched by Psy’s P Nation, released the teaser video for ‘F Girl’ on the 20th. The video features scenes with candy packaging resembling contraceptives, a cherry symbol that could be interpreted sexually, and a scene where bright red cherry juice spills over a rug resembling feminine products, sparking the controversy over sexual content.
