Actress Hwang Jung-eum's real estate has been seized by her ex-husband Lee Young-don’s company.
According to the monthly magazine Woman Sense on the 23rd, Lee Young-don, who operates a steel processing and sales company called Geoam Core, filed a lawsuit against Hwang Jung-eum on March 27 for the return of a loan amounting to 157 million won.
Geoam Core additionally requested a seizure of the real estate on April 17, and the court granted the seizure request on April 30 of the same month.
The seized real estate consists of two units in an urban lifestyle housing (13 units) located in Seongnae-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, which Hwang Jung-eum purchased for 1.87 billion won in 2013. An individual identified as A also requested a seizure of 100 million won on the same property. Once the seizure is decided, the owner, Hwang Jung-eum, cannot rent or sell the property at will.
Recently, Hwang Jung-eum was indicted on charges of embezzling 4.3 billion won from a family corporation and was completely edited out of the final episode of the variety show 'Solo Because'.
She is accused of embezzling approximately 4.34 billion won from a family corporation, of which she owns 100% of the shares, and investing about 4.2 billion won in virtual currency around 2022.
In the first trial, Hwang Jung-eum acknowledged all the charges against her. Her lawyer stated, "The defendant invested in coins with the thought of growing the company," and requested leniency, noting that "she has sold some coins to repay part of the damages and plans to repay the rest by selling real estate."
Subsequently, Hwang Jung-eum stated through her agency, "While trying to grow the company, I was advised by people around me in 2021 to increase the company’s funds through coin investment, and I ended up investing in coins that I was not familiar with," adding, "I have repaid a significant portion of the funds withdrawn from the company in the form of advances by disposing of personal assets, and I am in the process of settling some unpaid amounts."
Currently, it is reported that Hwang Jung-eum has repaid about two-thirds of the embezzled amount by selling coins.
