'National Mom' Late Yeo Woon-gye, 16th Anniversary Today... Passed Away After Battling Lung Cancer

It has been 16 years since actress Late Yeo Woon-gye passed away.

The 22nd marks the 16th anniversary of Late Yeo Woon-gye. On May 22, 2009, she passed away while battling lung cancer, at the age of 69.

Late Yeo Woon-gye revealed her battle with lung cancer after she had to withdraw from the KBS2 drama 'Janghwa Hongryeon' due to acute pneumonia just before its first broadcast.

At that time, it was reported that Late Yeo Woon-gye was dedicated to filming 'Janghwa Hongryeon' even while battling lung cancer. She had been diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2007 and had to withdraw from 'The King and I', during which the cancer cells spread to her lungs.

Ultimately, 'Janghwa Hongryeon' became her final work.

Late Yeo Woon-gye's remains are interred at the Mita Hall of the Haein Temple in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Late Yeo Woon-gye debuted as a KBS public talent in 1962 and communicated with the public through numerous works, including the dramas 'The Phantom's Horror', 'Night Train', 'Guest House', 'Happy Our Home', 'Flowers Blooming at Twilight', 'Youth's Trap', 'Dae Jang Geum', 'Land', 'Bad Housewife', 'My Name is Kim Sam-soon', 'Bad Family', 'Daughter-in-law's Golden Age', 'The King and I', 'Janghwa Hongryeon', and the movie 'Mapado'.

In particular, she is still remembered fondly by many as 'National Mom'.
