MBC is organizing a two-part encore documentary to commemorate the passing of Pope Francis.
On the 24th, MBC announced, "We will broadcast the encore documentary 'Papa! Francis' and 'The Pope's Way' in memory of Pope Francis."
This documentary aims to reflect on the life and beliefs of Pope Francis and to provide a time for remembrance by revisiting the messages he left behind.
Part 1, 'Papa! Francis', and Part 2, 'The Pope's Way', were first broadcast during the Pope's visit to Korea in 2014. It introduces the current state of the Vatican while reflecting on the history of the Korean Catholic Church, which holds a history of persecution and martyrdom.
The production team conducted local coverage in Argentina, the Vatican, Italy, and the United States for about five months. The documentary gained significant attention as it was the first time Korean media revealed the tombs of past popes located beneath St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel where the secret conclave for electing a pope takes place, the humble residence 'Casa Santa Marta' chosen by Pope Francis instead of the papal palace, and the interior of the Vatican's secret archives where its history is recorded.
Additionally, through testimonies from individuals who have met the Pope or have had long-standing relationships with him, the documentary deeply highlights the message of hope and love that Pope Francis conveyed to the socially vulnerable, transcending nationality, race, age, and religion.
MBC's two-part encore documentary in memory of Pope Francis, 'Papa! Francis' and 'The Pope's Way', will be broadcast on Thursday, the 24th, at 12:05 AM.
