Short track's next-generation ace ‘Ramborgilli’ Kim Gilli (21, Seongnam City Hall) received the January MVP award at the 2025 MBN Women's Sports Awards.
In January, Kim Gilli set a remarkable record by winning gold medals in all five events she participated in at the Winter Universiade held in Turin, Italy, including the mixed 2,000m relay, women's 3,000m relay, and women's 500m, 1,000m, and 1,500m.
Kim Gilli is the first to achieve five gold medals at the Winter Universiade. In the Harbin Winter Asian Games held this month, she also participated in the mixed 2,000m relay, bringing the first gold medal to our team, and then secured first place in the women's 1,500m, surpassing her 'role model' Choi Min-jung, thus becoming a double champion.
The MBN Women's Sports Awards judging committee stated, “We highly evaluated not only the achievements shown at the Turin Winter Universiade but also the demonstration of our short track being the 'world's strongest' in China,” explaining the reason for selecting her as MVP.
Kim Gilli, who won the MBN Women's Sports Awards MVP trophy, expressed, “I am honored to receive such a meaningful award as a national representative athlete,” and added, “I will continue to grow and strive for good results at next year's Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.”
Meanwhile, the MBN Women's Sports Awards were established in 2012 to encourage female athletes in South Korea.
Every month, athletes who shine in South Korean women's sports are selected as monthly MVPs, and at the end of the year, a comprehensive awards ceremony is held to honor athletes who have elevated the status of Korean women's sports throughout the year.
